A very thorough introduction to VB.NET - By: Mr. A. Seaton, 09 Jan 2006
I'd have liked the means to give this book a 4.5 star rating!
I use VB.net Step By Step as an aid to teaching programming; it's very clear, provided the student is prepared to sit down & read for a minute or two, rather than expecting a quick-flash solution. The avantage of this is that knowledge gained from this sort of book tends to cement in the mind better; Halvorson explains the background to HOW & WHY things work the way they do, rather than just giving quick-fire solutions. In this way the reader understands some of the logic of the Visual Studio tool, & can work things out for themselves.
My only criticism is that I'd like it to be indexed by VB Keywords as well as in English. My solution is to use it in conjunction with the VB.net Language Reference manual, also from Microsoft, at a similar price. Together these make a powerful knowledge & information base.

Good Book to get you started. - By: Mark Evans, 19 Jan 2005
This book is very good to get you on your feet. It is appropriate for people who have basic VB/VBA skills that want to learn more about formal programming techniques. It covers a lot of the basics of programming that you need & assumes that you dont have much experience, if any, creating VB Applications. The book is written in such a way that you can easily pick out what you need from what you dont. The only downside to the book is that it is very much 'An Introduction to VB.Net' & therefore you will quickly find that once you get into creating your new application, you will need another more detailed book.
If you are previously experienced in VB6 or have very strong VBA skills, this book will probably be a little too basic for your requirements.

Jargon Free Book - By: I. Alam, 20 Sep 2004
A very nice book, written in a jargon free manner. Although it
does not take into consideration issues like database programming
i still strongly recommend it to computer geeks.
