I'd rather read Freud - By: A reader, 07 Feb 2008
For a book that is so often referred to, I was extremely disappointed.
While encouraging in that Moberly attempts to promote sympathy & understanding, the approach of the book is more suited to the old attitude of homosexuality being categorised as a pathology (the last vestiges of which were only removed from the DSM in 1986).

Essentiallly, Moberly lays the entire reason for homosexuality inclination squarely at the feet of a same-sex parent deficit. That is, the attraction to same-sex relationships is a person's attempt to repair a deficiency in their relationship with their same-sex parent.

This categorisation is ridiculously simplistic. It makes as much sense to say heterosexuality is a result of a opposite-sex relational deficit. In reality, you will find homosexuals AND heterosexuals at every point along the spectrum of same-sex parental relations, from the good to the bad to the ugly. For a homosexual who has a good same-sex parental relationship, this theory can do nothing but damage to that relationship by persuading the homosexual to cast blame where there is none & make the parent feel guilt when they have none.

As it is, no parenting is perfect & so it will always be possible to find 'evidence' for such a theory. Unfortunately, this sort of pseudo-scientific approach promotes the idea that homosexuality can be 'cured' by therapy or healing (according to your tastes). Whether a Christian agrees or disagrees with homosexuality, a better approach is one of love, care & support for the choice the homosexual makes (note this does not imply condoning, but recognising people have to make their own decisions). Making someone believe they can be 'therapised' out of it is irresponsible & potentiallly damaging.
worth persevering for the gems - By: Shandy, 03 Jan 2006
Sounds humanistic at first, & very technical/hard to understand in places, but a good analysis of homosexuality focusing on root causes rather than symptoms. Not masses of Scripture, but argued from the viewpoint that traditional morality is the only option for Christians. Some parts are a slog, but worth persevering for the gems.
