best book i have read in ages - By: N. Coles, 11 May 2008
I bought this book on the day it came out after seeing Tig interveiwed on This Morning.Actuallly seeing the man talk breifly about his experience reallly caught my imagination & i ordered it on Amazon straight away.Iwas not dissapointed in the slightest & had quickly read five chapters before going into work. When i came home that evening at about 10.15 i found out that my eldest son had seen it lying around & after reading the back cover had been intrigued enough to start readinig the book & was already half way through it.My second eldest son aged 13 also started to read it & needless to say they had both finished it whithin two days.Actuallly beating me to the finnish.I have of course now finnished reading it.Ihope they make it in to a film with Christian Bale,in my mind being the prime candidate to play Tig.
Vital reading for anyone travelling to the eastern bloc - By: cryingfreeman, 11 May 2008
This is both a compelling, addictive read & a warning to anyone planning on travelling within the old eastern bloc nations.
The author was astoundingly careless & utterly unprepared for the bribery game & how to play it when he landed in Russia. He was simply too casual about the trip in the first instance and, like the vast majority of humanity, lived by the maxim that horrible things only happen to other people.
By relating his experiences, he is at least extracting a measure of revenge for his absurd treatment at the hands of one of the most corrupt & backward legal systems on earth & at the same time, hopefully receiving some measure of compensation!
I would not, however, let it put me off travelling to Russia. Indeed, I hope to go later this year, & have already been in the former Soviet republic of Kyrgyzstan, where discreet bribery is the solution for every problem, & while I myself have never had to use bribes, I know someone who has on several occasions at airports in the east, for trifling matters in each instance (e.g. queries about printed e-tickets.) Just know that you may have to bribe someone at the airport or elsewhere at some stage for something that to you may seem utterly petty.
Compelling Reading - By: J. Michna, 10 May 2008
Having been to Russia I found this book alll the more interesting. I was shocked to read about the conditions in the prison system in Russia but also astounded by the ability of people such as the author to survive such an environment.
The author gives us an insight into corruption & bribery which begs many questions. One in particular, how those without resources & assets survive such a regime.
Gripping read. - By: V. Moore, 07 May 2008
I could not put this book down! I was shocked at what Tig Hague had to go through in Russia & amazed that places described in the book still exist. The horrifc conditions he was forced to live in/with throughout his terrible ordeal is shocking & unbelieveable. I have read many similar true life stories of drug smuggling & foreigners being imprisoned abroad (Damage done etc...) but this story trully is unbelieveable. A true story of determination, courage & strength that sees Tig Hague return home to his loving family & friends. A gripping read that will leave you shocked...you won't be able to stop reading!

You will read this story & feel like you are there & the horror that Tig had to go through, this should never happen, but it does.....scary horrifying thought. AMAZING AMAZING BOOK!!!!
