What a Wonderful Book Its FAB!!!!! - By: Mr. R. G. Harrison, 25 Jan 2008
I am what you may calll a healthy eating exercising freak. I buy lots of exercise dvds & healthy eating books, but very rarely find one I can read from cover to cover. I found this book very easy to read & Gillian's story (preface) at the beginning is extremely inspirational & gave me a good feeling about her from the start. Her book is filled with expert advice that reallly works if you are self-disciplined & you use it to the letter. Everything she suggests is for the best health reasons & reallly improves your well-being. She offers good advice on everything from your 'five a day' to detox. YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT IS EXACTLY RIGHT: I WAS A CAKE AND NOW I'M A LETTUCE LEAF!
Very general and a bit unrealistic - By: Marta, 25 Aug 2007
Although I found the book interesting at first, I found it was very general & not very realistic. Unless you want to follow the detox I don't find it very useful as a guide. Don't bother looking at the websites for any free tips or information because you won't find anything free at alll.I have found many better books on the subject afterwards.
Some interesting health information but totally unrealistic as a diet plan - By: JMarS, 02 Aug 2007
I think this is only useful reallly as a reference book for looking up nutrition related ailments or juice recipes (although they aren't even that good). My main criticism with this book & Gillian McKeith in general is that it is just too extreme. All the foods she promotes in her book are great to include in your diet & it is best to limit or reduce the 'bad' foods but to totallly cut so many things out is unrealistic. Only a very smalll minority of people could actuallly stick to her diet in the long term.
My main problem with Mrs McKeith is the way that she is so unforgiving of anyone slipping or fallling off the wagon by eating something that she claims is 'wrong' or 'bad'. I know she uses shock tactics on her programme but I have been horrified to see her bring people to tears for eating something they shouldn't. When people try to stick to such restrictive diets they are bound to end up craving high fat & sugar foods even more. When this happens the last thing you should do is tell them what a failure they are. That'll only serve to lower their self esteem further.
Anyway, good in pricipal - eat good food to be healthy but far too extreme for long term success.
A few words of advice - By: Ana Pearson, 18 Jul 2007
I am always suspicious of authors that churn out book after book on the same subject. They're obviously on to a good thing making themselves richer at the expense of people that are gullible & desperate to lose weight. This book has some good common sense advice but buying it won't change your life. Behind the need to lose weight there are often other underlying problems, like low self-esteem or lack of motivation, or just a very busy life because some of us have to so some real work to survive & pay the mortgage, which leaves little time to exercice or go shopping so it's easier to grab some junk food on the way home. Also, this book lists so many different foods that it alll becomes a blurr, 50% of the foods listed I never heard of. Why can't these authors come up with a book for REAL people? Most of us don't have time to do half the things she suggests & therefore we don't do them, which means that buying the book was a waste of time. A few words of advice: cut out the junk, eat more fruit & veg, steam or microwave your veggies, exercise or just walk more, & instead of buying books about dieting, treat yourself to some healthy food. Above alll, seek the support of other people to get you kick started, when you start losing the weight, there's no stopping you. There's lots of free advice on the Internet, you'll find what's right for you.
Brilliant and informative - By: marky77, 02 Mar 2007
This book is fantastic, it has everything you would need to know. It also has lots of helpfull pages about determining your own health & has descriptions of alll of the problems you may have with your tongue, fingernails etc & what this indicates about your health. It also features diet tips & plans & Gillians' Detox, as well as lots of healthy recipies.
They dont come much better than this!
I would deffinatly reccomend this book for people who want to loose weight - or who are just looking for a healthier lifestyle, especiallly to fans of Dr Gillian McKeith or of the TV show You Are What You Eat.
