Medical Student's view - By: Ella, 30 Oct 2008
A great book. Even for undergrad level, the layout is straightforward & the style is easy to get to grips with. Unless, like me, you have a specific interest in Psych, it may not be necessary, but a great investment if you do. The only thing I would say is if you intend using it for undergrad level, you may have to formulate your own notes on differentials.
Core Psychiatry - By: , 01 Oct 2003
Core Psychiatry is a superb book for anyone who is working as a psychiatry SHO or attempting their part one MRCPsych examination.

It is easy to read & facts are fast to find. Explanations are clear & it contains many information boxes, which aid revision. Clinical topics are covered with a good level of detail, & contain extensive reference lists.

Highlights of the book include the psychopathology, psychology, human development & psychotherapy sections. I spent many long hours struggling with poorly written 'core' books on each of these topics, only to later find that I could of saved myself the misery. It easily contains enough information to pass any MCQ on these topics & it is worth buying this book for these chapters alone.

The only area in which I feel the book could of been improved is the pharmacology section. Although, this contains useful comparison tables, it lacks the level of detail required for the Part one MRCPsych exam.

Overalll, this is one of the best available text books & I can stronlgly recommend it.
