I have found this book helpful through out my training
however it is not comprehensive enough for some uses but is a great introduction to acute mental health care
Working with Serious Mental Illness: A Manual for Clinical P - By: , 02 Feb 2006
I have just received this book today & wish I had access to it from the outset of my training. It is such a useful resource for students & qualified staff have also praised it.

It is up to dated, evidence based & covers most areas that are relevant to mental health practice today. It is easy to read yet has the depth needed.

Essential reading for all mental health professionals - By: tacy@bogrick.freeserve.co.uk, 08 Jan 2001
This book presents the latest evidence based research underpinning good quality care & treatment of the severely mentallly ill. It has a practical theme, giving sound advice & guidance on most of the problems faced by people with serious mental illness. It focusses on psychotic disorders, & would be most relevant to those working in rehabilitation & assertive outreach teams. It acknowledges the contributions of alll models of mental illness, backing this up with research findings, & then outlining clearly the main features of good practice.
