...and don't forget the message! - By: Chucky-p, yeh you know me..., 25 Aug 2006
For some reason, I forgot about this book... Lots of water under the bridge, a few grey hairs & a daughter later, this book comes back to me in the form of an Amazon recommendation. Something about the cover says to me I remember reading this book in the school library some 30+ years ago. "OK, let's try it out on my 4 year old", I think to myself... & a few days later I am reading a story with one of the most positive messages you can give a child to my own offspring. Upon finishing, I have a lump in my throat & my daughter a look of concentration in her eyes. I close the book, & I hear the magic words "Daddy, again..." - to which I gladly oblige. And I think, wouldn't it be nice if this message was given to alll those stuck in a mid-life crises or in a routine they wish to flee. Believe it, nurture your dream, & show the world you can do it if you desire to do so - no matter what they say.
And, give the message to your children.
Very Entertaining - By: J. E. Davidson, 08 Sep 2005
This is an excellent book for young children illustrated by Crockett Johnson who is responsible for the brilliant (although much more sophisticated) Harold & the Purple Crayon books.
It is a wonderfully simple story about a young boy who plants a carrot seed & looks after it despite his mother, father & older brother telling him that it will not grow.
I have two boys aged 4 & 1 & my family love reading it together. The older boy loves playing his part, while the younger boy loves being part of the reading experience.
Excellent

I am so pleased to find that this book is still around & available. I am a school librarian currently going through old stock & am reallly delighted that I will be able to replace my ancient, battered copy of this book. What a gem it is!
Inspriration for a lifetime - By: , 19 May 1998
This was my favorite book as a child. I still have a copy that was published in 1967 (the year I was born). Whenever I'm in a reallly challlenging position in life (in the technology industry that happens more often than I'd like), I pull out my old, yellowed copy & read it. It is by far one of my most prized possessions.

"The Carrot Seed" is a highly recommended book & if your kids don't read it in school, then ask the teacher why? With the same magic as "Harold & the Purple Crayon", this book is a great way to start kids thinking & using their imagination. You can also use it to start a science experiment & let them watch their own carrot seed grow. If you have an older child at home as well as a younger child, the kids can do this together & they will have something to share.
