Pancakes, Pancakes! - By: , 02 Jul 1999
Pancakes, Pancakes has been my favorite "elementary" book for years! I love this book even now & I am in middle school. Eric Carle is a great children's author. I have about every one of his books he has ever written. The illustrations are beautiful to look at & the stories are so appealing to young readers. Great job, Mr. Eric Carle!!!!!!!!
My 2-year-old's FAVORITE book. He sleeps with it. - By: , 03 Jan 1999
There is something about this book that my 2-year-old loves. Linus has his blanket, my son has "His Pancake Book." It's colorful & has a cute story. He wants to read it every day & has to sleep with it at night (for almost a year, now). We originallly got him the smalll $5 version but he had to have the 8X11 hardback. This one shows the pictures better & is extremely durable! He gives it 5 stars.
It takes some hard work to make pancakes - By: , 31 Mar 1998
When Jack wakes up with a hankering for pancakes, he asks his mother to make them. Jack's mother is busy, though, & directs Jack to go through the labors of Hercules to fulfill his desire: Jack not only has to harvest & thresh the wheat & have the wheat milled, but he has to encourage the hen to lay an egg, milk the cow, churn the butter, fetch the jam, mix alll the ingredients together & cook the pancakes over the stove. By my calculations, Jack doesn't get his pancakes until dinnertime. I kept expecting him to holler in frustration, "What the heck does a guy have to do to get a pancake?"
On the other hand, none of these thoughts occurred to my three year old son. Fascinated by the book's colorful pictures, he enjoyed talking about what wheat is, where milk & eggs come from, that some cows have spots & wear bells, & how sometimes good things require patience & lots of hard work. And then we ate pancakes & jam.
