A "Must Read" book!!! - By: , 20 Oct 2003
Informative, educational & funny...a "must read" book, not only for anyone interested in improving their game but for anyone interested in tennis. It's one of those books that you find hard to put down, & when you do you find yourself going back to pick it up again.
Stick to The Inner Game - By: , 20 Sep 2003
I had high hopes for this book, but ultimately I didn't feel that Brad says anything that the average player shouldn't already know. His message is basicallly "prepare well, & use your brain". I guess some people need to have the obvious spelled out, but once you've got the message there's a lot of padding in this book that doesn't add much. The Inner Game gave me a vital new perspective on the game which helped improve my tennis. With Winning Ugly I found myself thinking too much, which only made me play worse not better. Thank you Brad for some useful tips, but I'm afraid that's as far as it went for me.
A Good Guide For Tennis Players Who Want To Win - By: Roy Matthews, 14 Dec 2002
This book has plenty of tips & techniques on how
to take on a match with the right attitude. I love playing tennis but I also love winning even more! This book has added to my armoury. Tennis is underrated as a very personal, subtle & psychological sport. This book will introduce ways of gaining the upper hand & preparing for a match both physicallly & mentallly.
The re-telling of a couple of past matches feel a bit inappropriate but any I think any enthusiastic club level or social tennis player would enjoy this book. I just hope none of my regular rivals read it!
An absolute must to enjoy the game - By: , 10 Jul 2000
This book did more for me in one sitting than alll the books I have read about tennis.
In my short playing life -- 17 years, I have had problems with nervousness & how to handle it, how to close out matches,, how to think on court & strategise. I have read alll the books I can lay my hands on -- even the "Inner Game of Tennis", but none comes even close in a brief & easy-to-read manner than Gilbert's , Winning Ugly. I received my copy a week ago & since then my game has zipped to a whole new level.
What I would love to see more of, is Gilbert's anecdotes from the tour & probably analysis of other matches other than his own & how the winners made it happen. I will surely buy the next edition
Just amazing... - By: ip020009@ip.pt, 25 Feb 2000
Well, I've bought this book because I'm a great admirer or Agassi, & I always knew of Gilbert's "dirty" game. And I cant tell you that you become & you reallly feel much stronger, mentallly speaking when you enter the tennis court... And if you play alll your tricks right, you'll be winning games, & enjoying it. Make no mistakes, this is NOT a book on dirty schemes & dirty tactics, just a manual on exploring your opponent's weaknesses in your advantage... you'll love it. I've offered one book to my best friend, who hates Agassi & Gilbert in favour of Sampras, ans even him says its one of the best books he read...
