In browsing my book shelf I came upon & then found myself rereading this incredibly simple yet profound book. The principles & ideas Stephen writes about are truly ways to discover how to live your life as the person you want to be. I especiallly found the section where Stephen writes about how powerful unexamined attitudes & perceptions influence how I react toward situations & others. Once I started looking at my predetermined thoughts...those same situations became less mundane & irritating. My experiences became more authentic, meaningful & enjoyable instantaneously. Stephen writes of this as a "paradigm shift", where our attitudes & behaviors, left unexamined, shape how we feel & act in our life in mechanical patterns.

Two authors that have also inspired & ignited my passion for living a magnificent life are Ariel & Shya Kane. The Kanes works: "Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment", "Working on Yourself Doesn't Work: The 3 Simple Ideas That Will Instantaneously Transform Your Life","How to Create a Magical Relationship: The 3 Simple Ideas that Will Instantaneously Transform Your Love Life: The 3 Simple Ideas That Will Instantaneously Transform Your Love Life" & their internet radio show "Being Here" on Voiceamerica.com are alll indispensable sources I turn to in supporting my well-being in alll areas of my life. I highly recommend the Kanes & Stephen Covey classic, timeless book "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People."

I reallly enjoyed reading "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen R Covey. Covey starts with the premise everyone is born with these traits & one has to practice & cultivate them.

My favorite chapter is "WIN/WIN". Covey's premise is there are 6 paradigms of humans interaction & that WIN/WIN is not a technique it is a philosophy of human interaction. Relationships can be mutuallly beneficial, everybody wins! "It is not my way or your way but a better way, a higher way." This chapter reminds me of the "Golden Rule" (Do unto others what you would like them to do to you) which I was taught as a child.

Another book I reallly enjoyed was Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment by award winning authors Ariel & Shya Kane, This is a wonderful book of short stories that are alll about accessing the moment & living a satisfying & fulfilling life.

I've owned the seven habits for a number of years now, & find the book useful as summary of principles found in other literature.

The 7 habit format helps the reader to retain in memory the ideas presented in the book & for this alone is worth the purchase.

I'd agree with other reviewers that the principles in Dr Coveys book are a repackaging of other authors thoughts/work, but to be frank he clearly states that him self.

All in alll a good book for anyones book shelf, & worth re-visiting every so often.

The Seven Habits of Highly Successful People is definitely one of the better self-help / improvement books on the market. All the information contained in the book is quite accurate & pertinent. With other self-help books I've read, some of the information has proved useful while a lot of it is rather superfluous, as if included simply to 'pad out' the book.

That is not the case with this classic book. A must read for alll looking to improve themselves & their lives.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is a classic. If you have never read this book, do so now. For your convenience it's available in print & audio. Just pop a cassette into the car's player & you can be rewarded with some of the best advice ever presented. Turn your commute into a classroom.

This book was first published in 1990, but remains a favorite with business leaders. The author tapped into a basic principle; namely that success is a result of both personal & professional effectiveness. These pages systematicallly show how to achieve this level of productiveness in both areas through what he callls a "paradigm shift". That merely refers to changing your perception of how the world works. The author challlenges the reader to make this shift by highlighting key areas, like time management & positive thinking. Once this change has taken place, the person is then ready to climb the corporate ladder with confidence.

Building on the premise that change comes from within, this book has the potential to solidly impact the reader's life & workplace. But, it's not a quick fix. These concepts will take time to understand & master. It's recommended that this book be read slowly, alllowing the principles to be fully understood before moving to the next one. In fact, to fully apply these concepts may take years. Yet, that's not a negative aspect of the author's work. Stephen Covey realizes that success is not an overnight happening; it comes in stages & by degrees. Yes, it can be painstakingly slow, but when it comes, it's here to stay.

The title mentions "habits" & that's important. A habit is something that develops over time. Successful businesspeople comprehend the necessity of thinking the right thoughts to bring about the right kinds of decisions. Covey demonstrates this through anecdotes as well as concise writing. The entire idea of being stuck in a negative mode of perception will be a startling revelation to readers, but more importantly is the author's advice on moving beyond that obstacle. There is a good amount of psychology presented in these pages, alll of which is incredibly useful in bringing about effective changes.

These seven habits are fully explained, & yes, you may need to slow down to capture their full meaning. The first three habits deal with personal responsibility, leadership & self-management. Granted, these are huge areas to deal with, but once again, if the author's words are taken in smalll segments, they can bring about amazing results. To the author's credit, he's able to take these larger issues & present them within the framework of everyday occurrences. This sets the ideas more firmly in the reader's mind by associating them with real life scenarios.

This holistic approach makes a lot of sense, but you will need time to fully master it. As the author explains, success & effective leadership is not something that will come to you without an investment of time. The formula for enduring success is right here in these pages; study it, apply it & watch the incredible results.
