Slow and disappointing - By: , 07 Jul 2000
After reading the other reviews I was left wondering if I had read the same book. The story is very slow to get started & even when it does get going it just sort of meanders along. The characters face one or two tricky situations throughout the book, but each time these are resolved within a few pages & there is very little sense of suspense to keep you reading.

Apart from Sophie, character developement is extremely poor. Toby, who features heavily throughout most of the book is practicallly ignored for the final few chapters & the other two male characters seem to be just used as 'filling'.

If you are looking for something that won't tax your mind to pass the time during a lazy weekend, then this book may be for you. If, on the other hand, you want a story that will draw you in, engage you, move you, excite you, leave you wanting more, then this book will leave you very disappointed.

I'm hooked! - By: , 08 Aug 1999
This is a reallly great book. After months of searching, you can imagine I was VERY happy to find it in a local bookstore. I've read a few other books by Mary Brown (with another recently bought, just waiting to be read!) & I'm ashamed to admit that until I read The Draggone's Eg, I hadn't realized the connection between it, Pigs Can't Fly, & The Unlikely Ones. (But I won't say what that is, you'll just have to find out for yourself!)

Magical - By: , 06 Jun 1999
Ms. Brown has written another wonderful story involving the magical unicorn ring, & a quest for dragons. Even though it isn't very long, it has the feel of an epic. It will make you smile, & warm your heart. A wonderful summer weekend read.
