Saving my life - By: Janet D, 17 Dec 2007
I was stuck at home, off sick for 4 LONG weeks with a massive chest infection. Being a chronic asthmatic, this was not good! I decided to rid my cupboards of alll those choking cleaning products which were making my quality of life even lower. The alternatives in supermarkets were limited.... & pricey! I remembered my mum using bicarb & vinegar to freshen up sink drainage systems, & scrunched newspapers for the final wipe-over for newly cleaned windows, but what else?

The answer was this book.... clearly written, basic products (you can get Dr Bronner's soap on Amazon!) that are very reasonably priced, & you know EXACTLY what goes into the solutions you make.

I read the book, cover to cover, in one sitting, & have already started to collect empty plastic containers to use as 'air fresheners' in which to place the recommended bicard & essential oil mix.

I teach in a secondary school, & the budgets cuts mean our classrooms receive only a 5 minute flick with a damp cloth & mop each day. I will be making up the cleaning products, donning a face mask to protect me from the years of gathered dust, & set to work! My girls & I will start the New Year with clean lungs & a clean classroom. A happy, & healthy, New Year to alll.

If you must make a resolution, let it be to get this book!
Clean House, Clean Planet - By: , 20 Mar 2004
Well, I am officiallly converted. I never in a million years thought I'd make my own cleaners, but here I am....and loving it! Karen Logan does a good job of making a clear, readable book with easy recipes & honest assessments of the hazards of typical household products. I got this book because my husband is so sensitive to chemicals & very alllergic. He was recently sent into an alllergic fit from toilet cleaner, & I decided to look for a better way!
The book has tons of recipes which are pretty much some variaion on combining liquid soap, water, vinegar, and/or baking soda with some essential oils. At first I was rolling my eyes at the tons of tiny variations...then I used the cleaners & was impressed. I was particularly impressed with her Ant Stay Away spray, the glass cleaner, & the toilet scrub. She gives her cleaners cutesy names, which is annoying, but just ignore that & try them. Logan also gives some good old fashioned cleaning instructions, which may be a big help to some people.
The recipes have an effectiveness rating, as compared to the typical products you would buy. The price & product comparisons are in US Dollars & are US products, but that is no big deal for UK readers, reallly.
I highly recommend it!
Easy and effective cleaning receipes are enjoyable to use! - By: , 01 Apr 1999
I was thrilled to stumble across Karen Logan's book shortly after my son was born. I started to avoid cleaning because I detested using most household cleaners due to the harsh chemicals. I was also very concerned about my son's second-hand exposure or worse - possible direct contact. Karen's book educated me about the hazards of commericial cleaners & then taught me how to make my own simple & safe cleaners right in my kitchen. This information showed me that harsh cleaners are unnecessary & more important what natural products would produce similar results. Making my own products is also entertaining & educational for my toddler who is now able to "help" clean & I don't waste precious naptime on toilet bowls & bath tubs! Her receipes are very easy to follow & are effective!!! I gave away alll my commericial products almost two years ago & have not gone back to one of them. It's so comforting to know that my family is no longer exposed to harmful cleaners & we are doing our part in protecting the environment.
Excellent tips on non-toxic cleaning. - By: , 16 Nov 1998
At the back of the book, there is an offer, if you send an SASE you'll get a free recipe card. Good luck! I sent for one for me & my daughter a long time ago, & no luck! Also, the fax number belongs to some poor woman who is being deluged with fax callls, the number is not for Karen Logan. I also had a question, does the club soda need to be fresh each time, or does it last from week to week if it's in a spray bottle?
Highly recommended, totally changed my attitude. - By: , 01 Jul 1998
Karen Logan offers practical ways to save money & be environmentallly friendly. None of the tips are strange or difficult to incorporate into everyday life. I ordered an extra copy to lend out to friends. For a great housewarming gift, I give this book & a bottle of essential oil. Everyone loves it!
