A brilliant story that brings together all 4 series. - By: Ian Tapley, 24 Jan 2005
THE STORY:
During the Dominion War the Enterprise discovers a ship that appears to be the long-lost USS Voyager. Elsewhere, however, the resurrected James T. Kirk discovers that people from the Mirror Universe have been infiltrating the Federation.

WHAT'S GOOD:
This is a great Star Trek story, written by the man who knows Kirk best. It cleverly blends elements of alll four Star Trek series (let's just ignore 'Enterprise'), be it the brief scenes on DS9, the apparent return of Voyager or the adventures of the Enterprise-E crew. My favourite moment, however, is where Kirk (resurrected by the Borg & the Romulans), Doctor McCoy (still alive, but mostly bionic), Spock (also still alive) & Scotty (trapped in a transporter for decades & freed in TNG) are alll aboard the same Runabout, showing the whippersnappers how it's done. I grew up on the Original Series & the movies, so spending time with Kirk & the gang is like being with old friends. It's also great to read about the Mirror doubles of familiar characters, Picard's being the best (although there's an amusing scene where the Mirror Janeway comes-on to Kirk).

WHAT'S BAD:
There's a cliff-hanger ending, with the promise of more excitement to come. Sadly, however, the two sequels ('Dark Victory' & 'Preserver') are pretty awful, meaning that the great promise of this book is never reallly delivered.

A great "reflection" of KIRK - By: , 26 Aug 2001
This is the best I have read. Shatner portrays Kirk in a different light & has scratched away the surface to reveal that he may be a hero, Kirk is only mortal( even though he died & came back to life). He has managed to combine alll four generations. DS9 appears in book 2 Dark Victory.
fantastic- Shatner at his very best a spy novel in space - By: , 12 Jan 2001
William Shatner is back as Captain Kirk & how wonderful it is to see the man who knows him best write about him. I loved this novel not only does it continue the mirror universe saga but it also gives an insight to Kirk that the sreenwriters never gave - a sinister side which appears when it is clear he will do anything to save his one true love Teilani. Shatner excellently balances the just Kirk on a just mission with his counterpart the evil Tiberius who is it seems is everything Kirk is not or is he? A love story crossed with a deep conspiracy story alll upon the vast galaxy. Kirks conscience has never been tested so much bring on the final part!!!!!...
William Shatner really know his Trek - By: mvw@spacemail.com, 07 Dec 2000
If there were any rumours about Shatner not liking StarTrek, well condier them dispelled. All Shatners books involving Characters from alll The trek series are brilliant, fast paced, a very well written. Of course he gives Kirk the best bits but what the hell do you expect.

Dont be fooled by Shatners previous attempts at entertainment, suc has acting & singing.. He is a fantastic author..

Read this imaginative book, & then move on to alll the others.
