short, bald, brown and round. - By: Pilansberg pete, 06 Sep 2008
You don`t have to be a bird watcher to enjoy this brilliant book.
In the same vein as the No1 Ladies Detective Agency but with birding thrown in. Mr Drayson isn`t a twitcher but he certainly knows people (and apparently platypuses).
Heart warming & laugh out loud funny. This will make a fantastic film, but who could play Mr Malik?
A novel that makes you feel good about life. - By: Tiff Angus, 24 Jul 2008
This is a book that redeems one's faith in human nature, that will make you smile & make you feel good about life.

It is an unusual love story & introduces one of the most loveable characters, Mr Malik. He's no love god, he's a little tubby & has a rather alarming comb-over but he's brave & has the warmest heart. Mr Malik has falllen in love with Rose Mbikwa the leader of his Tuesday morning bird walk. He wants to ask her out but has competition from the flash Harry Kahn. They decide they'll have a bet; whoever spots the most birds in the week will ask Rose out.

It reminded me of Alexander Mccalll Smith (but better written & funnier) & Marina Lewycka's Tractors in Ukrainian. I loved it & have been telling everyone I know to read it.
