Lacking the wicked humour of Bergdorf Blondes - Disappointing - By: Lauren Thomas, 21 May 2008
I reallly enjoyed Plum Sykes' first novel Bergdorf Blondes, which was hilariously quirky & extravagant, so I picked up The Debutante Divorcee with very high hopes, & was sadly disappointed. The wicked wit displayed in Sykes' first novel was notably absent, & the story felt old & unimaginative. As likeable the characters were, their over-the-top lifestyles made me feel somewhat uncomfortable, whereas in Bergdorf Blondes, you felt like you were laughing at these women whose top priority is getting their hair coloured. All in alll, it just seemed reallly rather pointless.
blah, nothing special - By: Lindymck, 19 Feb 2008
frilly novel about it girls living in new york. gossip girl for girls in their 30's. easy to read as it only took me bout 3 hours, something to immerse yourself in for a couple of hours but its not high brow literature.
Slightly Disappointing - By: L. Donnet, 11 Jan 2008
I bought this book as I had enjoyed Plum Syke's debut, but found the plot to be slight fragmented & lack in substance. Obviously I wasn't expecting a great literary tome, but neither the characters nor the plot were particularly arresting & it was not a book that lingered in my mind afterwards. This is a light book that will do as a holiday read, but I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it.
Fizzy froth and bubble... - By: LittleReader, 12 Sep 2007
I enjoyed this book - it's light & easy to read, not too long & fizzing with life...
Don't expect an original plotline (there isnt one in sight) & the characters are predictable (though funny & likeable) but this book does exactly what it says on the tin; glamourous locations, lots of rich girls giggling alll over the place & a little bit of bitchiness.
In alll, an excellent beach read but no literary prize winner!
Perfect for the girly girls out there - By: Copper Angel, 19 May 2007
I choose this book because I wanted some light hearted chick lit. I read Bergdorf Blondes on holiday the year before & reallly enjoyed it so thought I would stick with Plum. I reallly reallly enjoyed it & found it hard to put it down. The characters are fun & strangely likeable & the setting description makes you feel like you are reallly there. If you like glamourous chick lit you should def give this a go.
