My 10 month old has this which we read to him in bits & the board book version of the first story, Hairy Maclary from Donaldsons Dairy.
He squeals when we get it out of the bookshelf & he always gets his board book version (which lives in his toy box) out & opens it onto the page which introduces 'Scarface Claw' the cat.
Good for recurring characters, great rhyming & use of words. Entertaining for us too.
PS A dairy is a New Zealand corner store.
Excellent book choice for younger readers - By: J. Soppitt, 29 Feb 2008 I have just bought this book for my 3 year old following the recommendations on this site & he absolutely loves it! I cannot recommend it enough - every night he begs for more stories from Hairy Maclary that I am going to buy even more books from this author.
The stories are exciting & fast paced & introduce some fun characters like Muffin Mclay & Scarface Claw. I have to aqdmit I was slightly sceptical about whether my son would like these but he loves them & I appreciated the reviews made by other people as it made me buy the book in the first place.
My 15 month old daughter's fave book - By: Mrs. E. M. Green, 29 Jul 2007 There is absolutely no contest at bed time, this book is picked up & put on my lap everytime. Rhymes are so important for tots, alot of recent studies are prooving this now & this is such a fun book to read even if it is 5 times a night! I can't recommend it enough reallly, if you get it neither you or your child will be disapointed!
Hairy wins the day! - By: Ms. E. H. Street, 24 Aug 2006 As a year 2 teacher I read a huge variety of books to my class, but Hairy Maclary has always been the most popular. Great rhymes, stories, & pictures make for an easy & jaunty read, & the kids simply love joining in with the memorable repetitions. "Rumpus at the Vets" wins out as the most requested.
Absolutely Fantastic Book - By: , 13 Oct 2005 This is my 2 year old son's favourite bedtime book. The stories are fantastic & the rhymes are great. Would definately recommend this book especiallly if you like dogs.
