Indispensable, but no CSS2/XHTML/Apache2 - needs updating - By: , 13 Jul 2004
Excellent reference, used daily. Could be perfect...

Includes complete texts of the JavaScript & PHP4 Pocket References, both concise & to-the-point. Needs coverage of CSS2 (Meyer's new edition?), XHTML & XML. Useful stuff on Perl CGI & Apache 1.3 configuration.

The 3rd edition was out of date when it came out, as was the 2nd... Come on O'Reilly, where's the 4th, fatter edition?

Fine for starters - By: Graham Phillips, 17 Jul 2003
This book gives a brief overview of the information that a webmaster might need, but obviously one book cannot contain enough details for everyone. Each chapter reads like a précis of a different complete book (and perhaps it is). When I was new to this web lark I found it very useful, but now that I have progressed (a little) I find I need to know a lot more than I can find here.

The term "webmaster" means different things to different people. In practice, I guess that not many people are concerned with both the content (html, css etc) & the delivery (Apache etc) of it. One use for this book is to give 'content providers' enough background to speak with 'server administrators' & vice versa.

A real must buy. - By: , 29 Jul 2001
Although not a beginers guide I would still recommend a beginner buy this book. It is a "reference" book not a "learn to". You will certainly learn things from it but its main aim is to help you not teach you. A great book to supplement online tutorials & books. Ive had it since 1996 & still use it.
Superb summary book - By: , 12 Mar 2001
This books acts as a superb reference book for serveral key web topics. Basic knowledge of web development required as it's not a 'begiiners guide'.
Excellent introduction to advanced Web design - By: , 13 Feb 2001
This is an excellent book for anyone already familiar with HTML & who wants to expand their knowledge into more advanced areas. It not only explains the theory behind features like JavaScript or CSS, but also covers practical topics like browser incompatibilities.
