brilliant book - By: V. Krautsova, 06 Jul 2007
i have never owned a Mac & still don't but iam considering a switch from pc. i am considering getting a new laptop, & getting a mac never even occured to me untill i accidentallly bumped into tv commercial 'get a mac' while browsing smth on the net. from there i got to Apple site & read a bit more about Mac & their OS. i got reallly intrigued & after searching the net for reviews from those who switched & info on differences in Os windows ans macintosh, macs started to appeal to me even more. so b4 getting one i decited to buy this book, so i can picture the differences for myself in a bit more detail.
the book is written in simple language, nicely divided into chapters & covers most of the questions that a pc user would wonder about.
eg. 1. there's no right click, how do i save images from the net.
2. will i be able to use msn, yahoo, icq andaol messengers when using a mac?
3. what internet browser is inbuilt there instead of IE, how is it different?
4. how different is the keyboard & the shourtcuts?
and many more
i have not read the whole book, but i was browsing & looking through the questions that would interest me & so far i found alll the answers.
so if you are considering making a switch from pc to mac but a bit unsure of how you would adapt to a completely different machine, i would highly recommend this book.
Don't leave your PC without it... - By: M. Sowden, 30 Jan 2007
I finallly took the plunge this Christmas & left the murky world of Windows behind for the greener pastures of the Core 2 Duo iMac. It's been a blast so far & I have to say I won't be going back. However, the job of transferring stuff from my old PC to my new iMac would have taken me ages if it weren't for this book.
Cleverly written to be straight forward without ever being patronising, it takes you through everything you ned to know to move (virtual) house & home & acclimatise yourself to your colourful, slick new surroundings. It helped me to transfer alll my documents & pictures using my modem router; import my favourites, address book entries & e-mail accounts; set up the mac the way I wanted it; capture my Christmas camcorder footage, add sound & effects using iMovie & burn my first DVD with iDVD. All of this within the first week! I still find myself constantly referring to it to understand this & that. I'm also planning to buy the Missing Manual for iMovie & IDVD.
Believe me, this book will make your first few months on the Apple side of the fence considerably easier & more enjoyable. Anyone thinking og buying a Mac should make this part of the purchase.
