Disappointing - By: D&D, 24 May 2004
I originallly mistakenly had the earlier edition of the book which I promptly returned when I found this later edition. The book promises much but in reality there is very little that you cannot find in the manual (slim though it is) apart from the resetting procedure. I found the diagnostics section unusable - maybe the software is now a later version & no one tells you how to get out of disc mode. Had a quick look at Secrets of the iPod - seems to be a superior book in every respect.
Good, but not essential... - By: , 25 Apr 2004
To sum up, this book does give helpful hints & tips, but isn'tessential. You could probably find out most of the info in forums or fromApple direct with a simple, quick e-mail. Good content, the thing is, doyou reallly wanna pay for this information?
Buy this... - By: JR, 11 Jan 2004
...if you own an iPod, or are planning to buy one... this book is about everything you need to set up your own music collection using iTunes 4 (Mac) or MusicMatch Jukebox (Windows), & enjoy it anywhere using your iPod.

It is divided into various parts: Introduction (What is an iPod?), The Hardware (Meet the iPod, The iPod Sync Connection), The Software (Digital Audio Formats, iTunes for the Macintosh, Musicmatch Jukebox for Windows, The iTunes Music Store), Beyond the Music (iPod as Address Book, Calendar & Hard Drive, iPod Games & eBooks, iSync) & Extreme iPodding (Connecting to other audio systems, Hot Hacks, Cool Tools, Troubleshooting & more), followed by the appendixes which clearly describe the use of iTunes & MusicMatch.

This is just THE book on the iPod & related matters. Furthermore, the language used is pleasant & it can make you smile at times. The paper is of good quality & feels good to the fingers.

Make your iPod time a pleasant time with this book!

Does what it says on the tin! - By: , 25 Nov 2003
Quite simply, if you have an iPod, you need this book! I consider myself computer-savvy, but got stumped trying to set things up by intuition alone. The supplied iPod handbook reallly only scratches the surface of what can be done.

Step forward 'The Missing Manual'. A couple of minutes browsing through specific chapters (esp. Ch 2 - Installlation) & I was up & running! The book has separate chapters for the supplied Mac & PC software, so some chapters will be surplus to requirements depending how you drive your iPod, but the book as a whole is well written, & informative.

Although I'm now sorted, I still dip in to make sure there's nothing I've missed. There's good coverage of the freeware & shareware options, although some of the links on the accompanying web site (The Missing CD!) are now invalid. A quick web search revealed the updated required links.
