Annoyingly Very Good and Also very revealing ! - By: Brendan T. Hole, 30 Jun 2008
This book is good & different! You actuallly feel like an idiot for trying alll the 'diets' out there that 'you will lose weight on!'.
The most revealing thing, that reallly shocked me, was Paul telling you about Ancel Keyes. He was a man who, during the 2nd world-war, studied the bad effects of 'semi-starvation' on people. They only were alllowed 1500kcals a day - that is well more than the Kcals alllowed in diets in magazines, papers & websites today!
Paul goes into detail about that which is very interesting & he gives you 4 steps to follow (eat what you want - not what think you should/eat when hungry/eat consiously & enjoy every mouthful/ Stop when full!)
Its easy to do & you will lose weight - I have! - You just need to recognize your bodies signals - (hungry/full).
great book - By: Mr. S. Mrs A. West, 24 Jun 2008
Been using this now for five weeks - a little sceptical to start with, but it works. Without noticeably dieting I have lost inches - I got rid of the scales like he said & have gone on how I feel about how I wear my clothes. 5 *****
Not losing weight, but I am happier - By: Zakia Khan, 18 Jun 2008
I have read this book & listed over & over to the CD. I am not getting thinner... On the other hand I am quite happy with my weight. I like looking at myself in the mirror these days. It might have had a better effect if I had had cravings I needed to get rid of, had a tendency to binge or generallly felt bad about eating. He has some nifty techniques.
I suppose it is a bit of a trade off you either (a) get people to loose weight (b) make people feel happy about themselves whatever weight they are. I think McKenna goes for the latter. I do too.
It Only Works. - By: Zawiah Saki, 04 May 2008
People are different, of course. Some people just don't need books like this. They just do alll the right things. Other people at the opposite end of the spectrum will spend their lives looking for the magic elixir to make them thin. This book is aimed at those in the middle who are prepared to take the trouble to try something that if conscientiously applied will make them healthier.
Some people writing negative reviews have apparently cut to the chase & cherry picked the four sound bites that the system is based on. I'm not going to repeat them. Of course, they are common sense. But then why do people not apply it if it is common sense? Well, "Give up smoking" is common sense yet it's more easily said than done. But if your doctor said "Give up smoking or you'll die in a few months," you'd be more focused.
That is what this book is about FOCUS. Unfocused people will not be able to use it. They will just say "I already know this!" or "It's common sense!" The book shows you HOW to focus & apply common sense.
Of course there are always going to be people who don't listen to their doctors & fairly obviously, these people won't listen to Paul McKenna either. Paul McKenna is a professional hypnotherapist & he is worthy of some respect. You might like to argue that he does not deserve as much respect as your doctor but that is only making excuses. It may be - like your doctor's advice - common sense backed up by expertise. That's alll that science is, after alll. It's not something told to you by a man in a pub or your granny - or something you thought you heard before. It comes with background knowledge & that is what you pay for.
Of course, Paul McKenna is not saying "Just eat what you like & as much as you like & you'll get thin." That would be crazy. He is encouraging you to trust your body's messages. If you genuinely feel hungry you should eat. If you just have 'the munchies' you should stop smoking pot! Food cravings can be caused by things other than hunger - depression for one. He is encouraging you to distinguish between cravings & hunger. If you are depressed you may need additional help. This book is not "Paul McKenna will stop you being depressed."
He encourages other things such as a more positive approach. A lot of people misunderstand a positive attitude to be a Pollyanna style lack of realism. One of the many points this book hammers home is that thinking "I will lose weight," or "I don't want to be fat," is simply obsessing about weight & fatness. That will just make you want to eat even more! You need to focus on being healthy & that is something positive - it is a GAIN. Saying "I want to lose weight" is giving a weight problem the wrong emphasis.
Our nation reallly does need to be thinner & healthier. This has nothing to do with size zero or unhealthy thinness. Some people do not like the title but "I Can Make You Thin" is a kind of short hand. A better title would be "I Can Make You Healthy & Slim," but that would not be as snappy & to the point. He is not aiming his books at people with anorexia or bullemia. This book & CD is aimed at those of us who just need a little encouragement & guidance. It's pretty good value for money, after alll & it does what it says on the cover & will work for most people. Going on the average reviews on Amazon it looks like it is more effective than most self help books out there.
To those of you trying to decide whether to buy this, please remember that some people have an agenda. They are more interested in getting their own message across whether it be "Fat Is Beautiful!" or "We're All Doomed!" The real common sense here is to ignore the often offensive people who say something like "If You Don't Listen To Me You Are DUMB!" The real common sense is listening to people who say "This worked for me. Maybe it will work for you." That - when it comes down to it - is alll that I am saying. Of course it isn't rocket science but it is as scientific as you or I need it to be, providing we're patient & willing to give it a chance.

Total freedom from dieting forever! - By: C. Watson, 11 Mar 2008
Hi,
I bought Paul's book a few years ago & followed the principals but it didnt work for me back then as I didnt 100% believe it would work & then ended up going back to dieting anyway (I was young & foolish!)
I have only been listening to the cd again for the past week but can't describe how much better I feel within myself & how much more energy I have. It is such a relief to wake up in the morning not worrying about how many calories, points or syns I am alllowed for the day! Since the age of 18 I feel as I have I have been on a constant diet, I have tried slimfast, weightwatchers, slimming world, atkins & diet pills not just once but 3 or 4 times & have never been able to stick to them the most I ever lost was 8lbs which went straight back on again with a few more pounds just for good measure!!
I do not know if I have lost any weight yet as I am only a week into it & Paul recommends that you only weigh yourself every two weeks but what I can tell you is that I actuallly feel like a normal person again, if I want a chinese takeaway then I have it, if someone is offering cakes I am no longer the person saying ooh no I can't I am on a diet, but secretly thinking oh god I would kill for a cake/no its bad food/oh go on then stuff the diet!! ha ha
I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking to lose weight, forget dieting forever, it doesnt work! I started out at 18 weighing 10 stone, after 8 years & numerous diets I am now 12 stone!
Good luck
