Douglas Adam's Has The Last Laugh - By: , 02 Sep 2003
This book is apparantly the world's first to be democraticallly elected by its readers. Worth the paltry 5.99 just for the words by Adam's himself & the hilariously cynical "Twenty Schmenty". Also, I believe some of the proceeds go to Comic Relief - so it gets 5 stars from me even if it does have the occasional slightly dull entry.
An esoteric pot-pourri - By: , 22 Aug 2003
A somewhat unusual mixture of straight, serious articles e.g Michael Meacher's "Green & Easy" & Zac Goldsmith's on ecology & some amusing & some extremely trivial ones. The book is illustrated with excellent cartoons which highlight the points made. Some of the visions of 2020 are thought provoking & ingenious especiallly concerning future sources of energy & food but many are depressing. I particularly enjoyed the GP's view of computer aided health checks & diagnosis. I found it an easy read, very useful for alll those long waits at airports & hospitals.
Made me smile! - By: , 20 Aug 2003
Now sitting next to the loo, this is a quirky "pick me up & read a couple of pages" type book that's brought a smile to my face on more than a couple of occasions. As with any book written by loads of contributors, there are a few duds, but on the whole it's well recommended!
Interesting concept - By: , 14 Aug 2003
This book is linked to a BBC community website 'On the Future' & alll the material used in the book was written & submitted via the website & rated for inclusion by members of the public. It's an interesting idea. The book contains articles & comments written by the public, some are funny, some are a bit off the walll.
Worth buying if you're one of the writers & interesting enough to buy & dip into from time to time if you're not. A possible stocking filler for a bloke who's keen on science?
