Brilliant, the best of the tenth doctor books so far that ive read.... - By: big mad doctor who guy, 04 Sep 2007
The prologue of this book is scary as flaming hell. A real creepy setting & reallly good action. immediately gets you hooked into a book of nightmares & young children & ancient evil. This book is thoroughly rivetting. A good plot & many scary moments written by a Doctor Who pro. Mike Tucker is an excellent writer with dark stories & this one is in the same league as the macabre & dark Matrix, a brilliant read! this should be made into a tv episode. it reallly actuallly does happen to be that good.!!!!!
Young people's education is shocking! - By: Mr. D. Harris, 05 Aug 2007
So I began listening to the suave & silky tones of the wonderful Anthony Head. I liked the descriptions & the scene-setting of the novel but the whole effect was somewhat spoiled by my realisation of two things:

1). This is simply an attempt to rekindle the excitement of the spooky lighthouse story done so well with 4th Dr story 'The Horror Of Fang Rock'.

2). This is another book that just lifts an old books ideas wholesale in order to pass them off as its own. Hello H.G. Wells 'The Island Of Doctor Moreau'! It's a straight lift with the only slight difference being that the monsters come from the childrens Id rather than being created by a mad scientist!

If people don't know their novel history are we to be left with the same old stories being endlessly retold & recycled? What a disappointment. Nice reading though, which is what adds a star.
Delightful Read - By: Chocoholic gal149, 05 Dec 2006
I no I have given alll the doctor who books i have reviemed 5stars, ut there is one detail you need to consider. Many of the other books (by different authors) were BRILLIANT but if i was 9 (wich i'm not i am 11) i would find them very hard to get through. but with this book, it is easy to get through! I wud give this book 11/10 for it's wonderful descriptions & perfect plot!
P.S. if you r a yob u wont agree on my bit about the wonderful descriptions
The Monster Mash! - By: dogbarkssome, 26 Nov 2006
The 4th in BBC Books series of 10th Doctor novels finds the Doctor & Rose confronting nightmarish monsters in a coastal Welsh town & strange goings on in a sinister rest home for the elderly. While the Welsh setting maybe rather over familiar from the current TV series this book is stuffed full of more rampaging monster action than even the television producers could ever afford, & author Mike Tucker does well to inject some classic late 70's style Doctor Who horror atmosphere into the proceedings, making this a book which should be enjoyed by fans old & new alike. One of the best of the BBC Doctor Who novels for younger readers & those young at heart readers looking for a pacy pulp adventure. Good stuff.
The Doctor battles monsters in Wales - By: P. N. Hussey, 03 Oct 2006
This book is a very entertaining, albeit brief, read, full of the usual quips we are used to from the television series. Mike Tucker has perfectly captured the character of the Doctor & Rose in his novel & rattles along the story at a cracking pace so it very much feels like an episode from the tv show. It has some creepy moments but alll in alll is perfect for alll fans of the show.
