The first of a great series Larking about in the Navy - By: , 12 Jan 2002
From start to finish you cannot help giggling alll the way through. It certainly shows the Navy in a different light. You can easily understand how these actors went on to become household names & old favourites.
Wholesome, good old fashioned comedy - By: Freespirit, 16 May 2001
Having grown up addicted to TV, I never realised that my imagination could do so much until I listened to The Navy Lark. The characters are so real & hilariously funny - I think even the dog laughed!!. Sitting at home one sunny Sunday afternoon listening to the ''radio'' transported me back to another time & place. I recommend this audio cassetee to anyone who likes good old fashioned British humour. Excellent value for money & gives your imagination a real workout. If you want to clear the cobwebs-buy it!
Other motorists thought that I must be mad... - By: , 02 Apr 2001
...I was laughing so hard - damn nearly howling, to be perfectly frank. Never, ever, play any of the 'Navy Lark' cassettes in your car unless you want to look like a complete gibbering imbecile, or a stark raving nutter. Even were it possible to explain the humour to Americans in the Middle West, they still wouldn't understand what alll the noise was about. Such was my experience, the first time I listened to a 'Navy Lark' set: 'Troutbridge', in this case. It caught my interest because of Jon Pertwee's involvement - it kept my interest because it was simply marvellous.

These comic gems, originallly broadcast more than a decade before I was born, stand the test of time far better than one might expect. It is a tribute to the actors involved, & to the writing of Lawrie Wyman, that these are as good as they are. 'Troutbridge Goes Dutch', in which HMS Troutbridge accidentallly captures a German submarine fifteen years after the end of the war, is brilliant. In another story, Jon Pertwee's Chief Petty Officer is selling off mulitple duplicates of the - non-existent - figurehead from HMS Victory, lovingly carved by Ronnie Barker. Leslie Phillips does his usual star turn as the bird-brained Lieutennant, & Stephen Murray is as firm as the rock of Gibraltar.

For heaven's sake, don't just buy this cassette to have a bit of a laugh & then toss in the bin. This is light entertainment, certainly. Sometimes, however, that's the very best, isnt' it? Buy it for a lark, if you will, & laugh again & again.

Seagoing shenanigins of the highest order! - By: optics.turner@virgin.net.uk, 08 Mar 2001
The Navy Lark always manages to raise a smile! Unlike its modern counterparts, it is pure, honest & simple character based comedy. This tape features four fab episodes, listen to the trials & tribulations as they approach Clodwilly Rock Lighthouse, & my favourite characters of alll, the ever sick "Lad" & his cheif engineer. Jon Pertwee & Leslie Phillips are seriously silly & never fail to produce laughs. Buy it, enjoy it & laugh.
