Disappointing and the ending rather weak - By: John Hopper, 08 Aug 2007
A bit disappointing. On the plus side, the book was good at creating an atmosphere of doom, making good use of the fact that the age of compulsory euthanasia was 21 as opposed to 30 in the film. However, the explanation for the rise of this perverted society is unconvincing & the ending I thought rather lame. I didn't care for the author's writing style either. This is one case where the film is definitely better in my view.
one of the best sci fi books ever written - By: P. Hughes, 15 Feb 2006
I can't believe there are only a few reviews for this fantastic book. You may have the idea that the book is from the film. Wrong wrong wrong! It is the other way round...the film is rubbish compared. It is truly a wonderful piece of art. It doesn't appear to be in print which is criminal (tho, i believe, there is a remake which I hope does the book justice & therefore a re-print). Get the book & read it. Remove the pictures from your mind of the film & the tv series, which was even worse, & be blown away by Willian & George!
Logan's Run, Logan's World, Logan's Search - By: Sci-fi fan, 21 Feb 2004
Logan's Run is the first book in a Trilogy in which alll three of the stories are equallly as good. Don't despair about the length of the first book, just try & get the others. That's the hard part as they are out of print & while Logan's World is around, Logan's Search is just that. Please reprint the series. While we're at it, could the TV series be released as well!
Great book - poor presentation! - By: s.j.edwards@virgin.net, 28 Feb 2001
I have owned my paperback version of Logan's Run for over a decade & decided it was time to buy a hardback version so that I could (in theory) keep it forever.
This particular edition is amateur at best. The printing quality looks like the text has been scanned in from a paperback version, enlarged & then printed out a fresh.
Overalll, the story is still the delight it has always been but the presentation is just awful. If you want to buy a hardback version of this book buy a different one!
Original and captivating sci fi - By: , 12 Nov 2000
I first read "Logans Run" in the mid 70's when the book first came out. I saw the movie not long after, & I must say the movie is nothing like the book. The book is far better, (they usuallly are), there is a deeper plotline & different ending to the book. My only criticism of the book is that it could be longer, before you know it you've finished it. The plot outline, in itself, is quite simple. A future society full of excess in the way of drugs, sex quite hedonistic in fact; the only catch being you must surrender to death (or sleep as the book puts it) at the age of 21. "Logan" is a DS (Deep Sleep) operative who hunts & kills "runners" who try to evade "sleep", until he himself turns 21..........
