Captivating - By: CH, 19 Nov 2007
A very good book. Captivating, intrigueing, sexy, with strong characters. A great read. It's not gritty reality & yes, I did guess the killer before the end, but stories are for escaping & I could not put this one down.
Predictable - By: cocosteel, 02 Nov 2007
This is the 1st book by Ben Elton that I have read & from the begining it appears to be a well writen piece of work. However from the middle on the story became predictable & a little rushed. At the end it was if the author was in a rush to finish the book like a kid late with his homework. All the details were nicely tidied up Mr. Newson & the stoeryline became totallly unrealistic & predictable.

However I still enjoyed the book & kept reading it obviously but just disappointed with the final couple of chapters.
You cannot be serious!! - By: Louise Giblin, 09 Oct 2007
I must say before the rest of this review that I listened to this on audio whilst I was at work & had no alternative - to alll of you who enjoyed this book, please read Mark Billingham or Christopher Brookmyre they are good! The 'twist' was pretty obvious from the off, & the poor friend from years ago was well, probably a twisted ex of old bens, I used to think he was funny when I was 12, & that was the 80's, when I was at school, maybe he should have written about the 60's when he was there!
A cracking read - By: P. DATTA, 22 Aug 2007
Ben Elton proves his immense status as prolific author amongst readers as this novel clearly indicates. Past Mortem is a fine blend of humour, sex & seriousness. The novel is written with such simplicity & reallly readable. The manner in which the novel is written entices you to the story. You are addicted to the book for long periods.

The main plot is about a series of murders that a ginger & midget inspector Newson & her attractive sergeant Natasha are assigned to solving. The paralllel events to the novel includes the Friend Reunited website, in which Newson wants to rekindle old flames from his schooling days. The key question posed here is their a paralllel link between the past & present. That will be alll revealed in the novel.

Past Mortem is reallly intriguing & cracking read, which keeps you guessing & reallly absorbed in the story. Ben Elton is a wonderful author as this novel proves & I desire to read further novels by him.
Fantastic - By: gerty guinea, 19 Aug 2007
I would give this more than 5 stars if I could! This was one of the best books I have ever read - it has humour, romance, & lots of tension. The plot & characterisation are spot on & the ending was completely unexpected - (I usuallly spot twists a mile off). The encounter between Ed & Helen was hilariously graphic, Ed & Natasha's relationship was brilliantly written. I'm currently working my way through alll of Ben Elton's books - alll are excellent (particularly Inconceivable), but Past Mortem just has the edge - a brilliant book.
