Fantastic! - By: B. East, 04 Dec 2008
My daughter in year one (5-6Yrs) used this book for a topic. It was fantastic. Soup has never been so popular. The illustrations are bold & the story is lovely. I liked the way that the friends had their roles & how the argument was resolved. We ended up buying alll of these books.
perfect book to insprire - By: mini driver, 27 Oct 2008
My just turned 3 yr old loved this book & couldn't wait to hear it over & over again. After purchasing, "A Pipkin of Pepper" & "Delicious" it's a real deliberation every night which episode to read at bedtime. He would be happy with alll three! Brilliant illustrations & a delight to read together. Our family couldn't recommend it enough!!
`Cat, Squirrel and Duck are three friends who make pumpkin soup together every day..... - By: Amazon Reviewer, 16 Nov 2007
they always do it the same way, until little Duck thinks he's got a better idea.....'

I was captivated by the book corner at a recent primary class I visited, in connection with helping young children cook as part of my course.
`Pumpkin Soup' was the source book & `the corner' was alive with the green & gold shades of Autumn, & pictures/poems about the three lovable characters, with some amazing attention to detail even down to the bag-pipes!
It proved an excellent platform for a project & the children couldn't hide their delight in acting out their little pieces - it sure brought a tear to the eye.
I particularly noticed the flow of lively replacements for the word, `said', which the children reallly emphasised with apparent ease - e.g. `squeaked', `snapped', `stormed', `scoffed', `muttered', `sniffed', `wept', `whispered' & `yelped', & these words followed through into the written work too.

The 32 high quality page book is a beautifully illustrated, well written tale with a distinct message - sharing & compromise - & don't we alll know how difficult that can be at certain ages?

Simply delightful book & guaranteed to be a regular choice from the bookshelf!

A father's perspective - By: Mr J Searle, 16 Nov 2005
I am determined that I will do what I can to enable my children to enjoy reading as much as I do. These are testing times as kids TV & DVDs are far better than when I was a lad. That makes me sound old. I'm not. I'm 37 & a barrister. Because of my job I don't read too much for fun as I spend so much of my working time reading.

I decided from the outset that I would try to purchase books for my kids that I would like to read. That way I enjoy reading the stories & they pick up on my enthusiasm. Helen Cooper's books are reallly very good & this is my favourite. I should also say that my 2 year old daughter also loves it ! My view has nothing to do with the fact that the author looks quite foxy !

Pumpkin Soup - By: , 23 Jan 2005
This was the second book to totallly captivate my son, who is now three & still adores it. The first book was Helen Cooper's 'The Baby Who Wouldn't Go To Bed', which is still a firm favourite. The illustrations are works of art & draw you effortlessly into the story. Helen Cooper has turned my once book shy son into one eager little book worm.
