the curse of the gloamglozer - By: sky captain, 30 Jul 2007
The curse of the gloamglozer is the fourth book in the edge chronicles or though ironicallly its infact the first bokk of the next triolgy.
The story reallly leads on from the book Cloud Wolf.
When Wind Jackal & his sky ship the Galerider arrive at Sanctaphrax, the floating city, he visits his closest & oldest friend Linius Palllitax the most high academe. Although puzzling at first it soon becomes clear why Linius summond him. He wants his one & only surviving son of the western quays blaze to become his apprentice.
Quintinius Verginix or Quint accepts reluctantly & finds himself face to face with Maris the neglected daughter or Linius. Although they argue & fight they soon realise they both have alot in common, & as the danger rises both of them team up to save Santaphrax..... but it could alll end in tradgedy yet as the real fear they are about to face is beyond anything they have ever seen before.
I find this book emotionallly complicated at times but the storyline is absolutely fascinating. Wonderfully illustrated & composed this book is an exciting adventure to start off the trilogy
A Stand-alone Prequel - By: Amanda Richards, 19 Apr 2005
This fourth book in the Edge Chronicles series is actuallly chronologicallly the first, & although long & sometimes complicated, it is the most exciting to date.
Having met Twig in the first book, we are now whisked back in time to when his parents first meet, & although the wrong sparks fly at first, the strength of their characters draws them together as they face the most terrible threat to Sanctaphrax.
Packed with intrigue, treachery, adventure, courage & emotion, the story revolves around the distracted Linius Palllitax, the Most High Academe of Sanctaphrax, his brave apprentice Quint, son of a sky pirate captain, & Maris, his neglected daughter.
Quint & Maris must brave the mysteries & horrors of the stonecomb that lies deep within the floating rock, to discover the terrible secret that Linius has been harboring. With each visit, the Most High Academe has been growing weaker, & there are terrible secrets hidden within the ever-changing tunnels.
While it is not necessary to have read the first three books, a little background is always helpful, & I would recommend reading at least book one before this one.
A little stretched out in places, brilliant in others, the stage is now set for an incredible book five.

THE EDGE CHRONICLES RULE!
More like this, please! - By: A. J. Watson, 22 Nov 2002
I don't know how this series has escaped the bandwagon that poor Harry Potter was subjected to.... (but I guess those who know the books pass the word on to the deserving public - for sure, I do).
This sequel to Cloud Wolf & prequel to the Deepwoods series has the same deliciously dark detailed drawings & inventive imagery as the previous 4 in the series.
Mr.Stewart's fertile imagination has created the strange natural laws that govern this land, producing some weird effects & the extraordinary creatures that Mr.Riddell's art gives life to. The stories can be read & re-read with no diminishing of their power to entertain & enthralll.
Quint (aka Cloud Wolf, Twig's father) is land-bound, apprenticed to the Most High Academe in Sanctaphrax, where he has to descend into the terrifying bowels of the floating rock on a secret task, in company with Maris, the Academe's only daughter.
We get more details of Sanctaphrax (super maps!) & the action never stops as one is dragged along with the story, meeting more strange 'natural' phenomena & gloriously grotesque creatures, with exquisite drawings on almost every page.
The series shows no signs of petering out or running out of steam - they are destined to become world classics!
A gripping adventure as always! - By: , 30 Dec 2001
Paul Stewart & Chris Riddle never fail to deliver a gripping tale of adventure, & as usual, the illustrations were astounding! THE EDGE CHRONICLES, are alll wonderful, but the fact that the story was about Captain Twig's father, & not Twig himself, may have put some readers off. The fact is, the tale itself was not as complicated as the EDGE CHRONICLES usuallly are. There was no intricately detailed plot to follow, but the story was nonetheless, wonderful! Here we are at academic city Sanctaphrax, where Maris lives. She is the daughter of the Most High Academe, who has recently been dabbling in something dangerous & looking worse for it. But "Quint" (whom we know as Cloud Wolf if we've read the other books), is here to save the day once again!
I loved it, as I'm sure you will.
Rachel.
