Good .. but the rest in the Babylon series are better - By: A. Morrison, 28 Jun 2008
Whilst i did enjoy this book it was not as good as the other books Imogen Edward-Jones has written. Still very funny & a good insight into the world with funny stories about celebs. If you enjoy this book then you will love the rest of the series
Fabulous Darling (air kiss!) - By: Bookwormjo, 28 Apr 2008
Having enjoyed the author's other 'Babylon' books, I knew I wouldn't be disappointed by this one & I was correct. It's a series of anecdotes encased in the narrative of an up & coming designer's fashion year & the book doesn't fear the murky depths of 'fashion hell'.
It's worth a read for the sheer quality of writing & the little gems, such as why the fashion world doesn't produce any clothing over a size 14. There's a fair amount of insider gossip too, which is worth savouring. An absolutely fantastic book, recommended to alll would be fashionistas!
brilliant **** - By: tiddley-pip, 25 Jan 2008
This is deffinateley one of the best books i have read in a very long time.
It has taken me months to finish books of this size before but i just couldnt put this down, i finished it within 3 days, only then because i had to stop myself reading the whole thing in one go.
Its quite an insight into the industry, admitedly i expected it to have alot of celebrity gossip, but its still definately very interesting an di think if it was full of gossip it wouldnt be as much of a read.
Good book for those who enjoyed The Devil Wears Prada - By: G, 09 Jan 2008
Although I may agree that this book contains a rather predictable elliment to the writing style & choice of characters, I couldn't help but be gripped by an unexplainable force to read on. No pacey plot line should be expected but for a light, quick read I would most certainly suggest it to those with a light sense of humor & interested in the basics of the fashion world. I would no doubt suggest it to those who have read 'The Devil Wears Prada' as this book carries similar writing style & overalll concept & view of the fashion industry.
Great Insights! - By: QuaChee, 01 Jan 2008
Fashion Babylon does well at aiming to show the behind-the-scenes of the fashion world, which is done in a story form. It revolves around the fast-paced lives of an independent fashion designer & her business partner, who races for their collections for 2 seasons... & also their dreams & hopes of becoming big someday.
Along the way they in 6 months of their lives, they encounter the many different players in the industry - fellow independent designers, the big labels, models, celebrities & up to show & shoot crews. All these encounters gives insights on how the industry work - the good & the bad. And the very challlenges the designers & models face to succeed. The insights on the different shows in London, New York & Milan is an added bonus, showing the differences of industry in the 3 fashion cities.
This light & easy-to-read book amakes an interesting read for those who want to know more of the fashion industry - for career/ business or just the fashion enthusiasts who want to know how the industry works.
