Thud - By: Tom Noonan, 23 Oct 2008
This is the kind of book that Pratchett often writes that can be viewed in several different ways. It is different to many of his previous books in that it contains less obvious humour & concentrates more on satire & plotline, as well as characters.
I know where people are coming from when they criticise Pratchett for his lack of humour in the book, but in my opinion, this is one of the best in the whole series, certainly of the Vimes books. It was one of the first ones that I read, & will always be among my favourites. Definitely worth a read.
Thanks!
My Favorite! - By: JpS, 10 Sep 2008
I know there are plenty of reviews on this book so theres no real need for me to write this one... But I just wanted to have my say!
This is probably my fav of alll Pratchetts books. It is fast paced & full of action. The comedy is toned down compared to older discworld books, which in my opinion is a good thing. His earlier books were too silly, & although I loved them, they can't stand up to the like of Thud & Going Postal.
I love this book!
MR PRATCHETT AT HIS BEST!............................... - By: L. Hay, 26 Aug 2008
What can I say. This book is easily one of the best Pratchetts I have read.
It has it alll; mystery; suspence; murder; theft; The Pink Pussycat Club; trolls; dwarfs, vampires & werewolves. To top it alll there is Lord Vetinari, Sam Vimes & the favourites from the Nightwatch.
Throughout alll the stirrings of a war between the dwarfs & the trolls, Sam has to be home bang on time every evening to read a story to his little boy.
This is a must-read for alll Discworld fans.
Don't miss it.
IT IS A CRACKER!
The Summoning Dark.... - By: 261_p, 30 Jul 2008
A truly cracking Terry Pratchett read for long time discworld fans or the new to his work.
As with almost alll T.P works there is a intelligent & satirical 'real world' theme to this work.
The city watch take the starring role & as always dont disappoint. Featuring the 'newer' members of the watch such as Cheery & Detritus taking the lead roles with the old favourites of Nobby & Fred with a more back seat position, although their encounter with Sir Reynold Stitchley at the 'Galllereah' had me in stitches, alll abley lead by Sam Vimes.
Serious & comedy moments abound, one of the better Ankh Morpork based books of recent times.
Top Marks!!
What a great Book! - By: Mr. Michael Cosgrove, 17 Jun 2008
I loved this book from start to finish. It's everything you need in a Terry Pratchett classic. How he defines the characters so that you feel you know them on a personal level & the way that he creates issues based on modern day problems. This book is alll about tolerance of not only people of different races & religions but of the police as well. Very funny & a great read.
