This book reallly does make you feel good. It's easy reading with great characters & lots of humour. OK, so it's set in the 70's, well thats not a problem, novels can be set in any part of history & still make good reading. JC writes with warmth, fun & a sense of whimsy. Her characters are, in the main, larger than life which takes the reader away from the drudgery of ordinary life. Brilliant!
the oldies are the goldies - By: T. Horton, 26 Nov 2007 Some people may think that these books are outdated, with archaic language & hooray henrys, god how sad you are. Jilly is the original chick lit author, the rest followed. Prudence I think is her best short story, you'll love the characters & the story flows beautifully. Yes it may be a little old but its well loved. For alll those giving it less than 5 stars, you try writing a best selling novel from that era that can still be enjoyed today & see how well you do!You wont match the easy read style & character development that Jilly does so well everytime!All her shorts are great but if you like dog walking & beautfilly depicted scenery try 'the common years'.

Oh dear, Oh dear, Oh dear!!! I chose this as part of some 'light, summer reading' & was interested to see that many of Jilly's earlier novels have now been re-released & re-packaged. Reallly don't know why they bothered with 'Prudence'. It's so dated & painfully so. You just cringe at both the outmoded behaviour & shockingly inappropriate language. I don't know who would be interested in reading this - certainly not the 18-25 age group of today which I suspect was this book's original target audience. Historians & social scientists may be more appropriate to see a snapshot of 1970's life which is thankfully behind us. 1 star was the minimum I could give - there are truly no stars in this piece of drivel. Avoid it at alll costs!!
Prudence - By: Reedy, 19 Jan 2006 Wonderful writing from Jilly, she reallly grabs you & pulls in you the book. It is so good I have had to buy it again as the last one fell apart as I had read it so often!!!
