Very true about the hotel business, great read - By: S. Doogan, 08 Jul 2008
I have read alll the Babylon books & I feel this is the best one. This book is based on 24 hour period as a duty Manager. It shows what the hotel staff do get up to, the guests & the things that go on behind close doors.
I have worked in a hotel before & it reallly does show exactly what REALLY goes on. Excellent read.

Because I'm in the same industry I was I admit curious. I'd already read Air Babylon & think it was a stroke of genious. Hilarious & worrying alll rolled into one! Hotel Babylon was however, I have to admit a bit of a disappointment. Without a shadow of a doubt, the general public behave so diabolicallly in this environment I reallly expected a story that would far exceed the behaviour of the general public in the air! I think it was noteable that the author is 'guided' by a person in the industry who was simply recallling 'bits & pieces' off the 'top of their head' - had the author had the inside experience (and therefore made a few notes over a period of time), I can't help but feel certain the book would have contained a far more in depth story of the inside truth of the hotel business - from both aspects - visitors & staff behaviour. I enjoyed it - it was 'easy reading' & it was certainly easy to identify with certain parts of it, but I know most of us in the trade could tell a story or two (and the rest) to blow this story well out of the water!
One of the best books of recent times - By: A. Morrison, 28 Jun 2008
This book is so good i didnt want to put it down. The stories are witty & very well written by this super author. The book forms the basis for the BBC series which is equallly good. Gives you a real insight into the workings of the hotel industry & has plenty of tips for the traveller
the series is way better - By: Nomad in Caledonia, 20 Jan 2008
Books tend to be better than movies based on them, this one is an exception though. The books lacks reasonable suspense & colourfullness of characters that series offers. OK, it's not meant to be War & Peace, but still...

I love alll the Babylon series but this one is definately my favourite, far surpassing my expectations. True accounts of what goes on in the hotel trade put together to form a day in the life of a receptionist at one of London's top hotels. I read this book in a day & could not put it down. It is hilarious but at the same time I had to keep reminding myself that it wasn't fiction. I was astonished at the way people behave when staying at hotels & the things that go on.
