Fills in the blanks - By: K. Partner, 20 Oct 2008
Having gone forwards & backwards in time relative to the events in Legend over previous Drenai novels, Gemmell is here filling in, effectively, the back story to that novel. We discover Druss's ironic role in the creation of Ulric, lord of the Nadir, who Druss goes on to oppose in Legend.
The story's good although perhaps just lacking the urgency of some of his other novels & much though I like Druss, he's perhaps not quite such an interesting character as the more multi-faceted Waylander or Skilgannon.
Overalll, another cracker from Gemmell, sure to delight those who've read the previous Drenai novels.
The Mighty Druss returns - By: genejoke, 24 Sep 2007
I love this, it's what Gemmell does best. Heroes being heroic, moral questions & big action. Straight forward but such a good read.

I love Legend - but this story is essentiallly a rehash - Druss fights a much bigger force, keeps them a bay for longer than we could humanly expect & comes out unlikely victor as the bigger force is callled away at the moment of victory. I think Gemmil needs some new fresh ideas though his new Skiigammon the Damned book is excellent.

As an avid reader of David Gemmell, I jumped at the chance to get my hands on this book. Once it arrived, I started reading it immediately. I finished this book in just over a day, I simply couldnt put it down.
Fantastic.
druss is back & true to form, what a star. - By: , 02 Jul 2003
a damn good read ,if like me you enjoy gemmel & the style of story only he can write which may not seem at 1st read, as indepth as some other fantasy writers, but gives alll the action, suspence, sorrow & wit one needs without ploughing through endless plots & subplots. as for druss he's a joy to follow through the pages as he hacks & slashes his way to being the legend, something he cares little about but sieben the saga poet, his companion & greatest friend creates for him whether he likes it or not.
