As only Catherine Cookson could tell it.....a wonderful story of a family as it evolves from hardship & poverty into a life of prosperity & the experiences of husband, wife & children as they develop through their lifetimes. The experiences of each member of the family as seen through their eyes & the eyes of their mother tug at the heartstrings as a reader feels the strong emotions connected with each character. This book could be a modern day saga although its setting takes place in another era. Truly enjoyable reading.
