This lovely book tells the tale of Cat Cleary & her family who move from the Slums of Ireland to Liverpool in search of making their fortune. Most of the story centers on Cat, her ambition, her loves & losses, but mostly her determination to, one day, work on the "White Empress" (a cruise liner)the most beautiful thing she has ever seen. I couldn't put this book down. It is a wonderful read.
