12 times and STILL counting! - By: A Flevill, 27 Sep 2008
I first bought this book 19 years ago, I read it then & am re-reading it again now, for the 12th time!!!
I find this book enchanting & very typical of a grooms life style, if not a show jumpers life style also. I can not fault the attention to detail, & story line.
I laugh out loud, cry without remorse & throughly enjoy every page..
I have also read Polo, and, Man Who Made Husbands Jealous.
If you enjoy Riders, you are sure to enjoy the Polo & Man Who Made Hubands Jealous... Riders is just a fab book after you get past chapter 2,although Riders can be hard to get into, it is well worth the effort...
ENJOY..! (p.s I on amazon looking for my 4th copy of Riders as I have worn the other copies out!!!)
Worth reading if you like showjumping! - By: Snowy3, 19 Jun 2008
After getting interested in alll things horse related - i decided to give this book a go. I have never read any Jilly Cooper before so expected the book to have no real story & just lots of descriptive sex scenes!. So i was pleasently surprised to find it did have a story, & a belting one at that!, & the sex scenes were short & few & far between. The story cleverly spans several years & alllows readers to follow characters as they grow up & mature. I was delighted that there are lots of horses in it & some feature as main characters nearly!. The showjumping descriptions are so fast paced & well written that you would think you were watching them on TV!. All in alll i thought the story was great, i reallly enjoyed it & i fully intend to read my way through the other books in the 'series'. Considering most of the other books are not horsey (apart from Polo) goes to show that Jilly has won me over with her writing style & compelling characters.
Not bad... - By: E. Marriott, 17 Mar 2008
I read this book because of its brilliant reputation. I have read Fiona Walker's French Relations which is meant to be very similar. Although a good read I actuallly preferred French Relations. Despite this, it is well worth a read, especiallly if you like horses!
Utterly tremendous! - By: Teresa J, 25 Feb 2008
A truly excellent book! Some of the characters were tough to like - I had previously adored Rupert Campbell-Black in other books so I was horrified by his portrayal in this original appearance & wished he could have got a better come-uppance for beating his horses & his sadistic treatment of his wife yet I think it actuallly helped to know that he would improve in later life! I've read this book over & over & every time I still enjoy it!
Fantastic read ! - By: L. Atkinson, 13 Oct 2007
This is the first time I have read anything by Jilly Cooper & I certainly want to read more. I can't wait! As with alll the other reviewers, I completely fell in love with alll the main male characters & absolutely laughed out loud in many places at their antics. I loved the book. I felt the pain each time when things were not going so well & I sobbed when Jake lost his faithful Sailor... Absolutely superb read.
