Too short - By: Tom Schoonbaert, 24 Apr 2003
If you are unnaccostumed with Roger Zelazny, I strongly advise you to start with another of his books, ofcourse Amber is always a good book to start with. This story is in fact too short for alll the details that are within it: a creature that is born on the side of darkness & who lurks in the world trying to enjoy himself & steal a lot of things. After he is killed he tries to take over that world. As he is a child of darkness, he only succeeds in destroying everything he comes in contact with, even if he means to do any good. It is in alll not a reallly good book, but still interesting enough to at least have read it.
Absolutely Classic Zelazny - By: , 30 Jul 2002
The world has stopped spinning. The light side is ruled by science & the dark side by magic. This is the story of a conflict between two of the lords of the dark side. Now from this description you may think you've read plenty of this sort of stuff before, but believe me you haven't.

This is one of those heady brews Zelazny was so good at earlier on in his career, rich with amazing ideas & throw away humour. Like 'Isle of the Dead,' 'Creatures of Light & Darkness,' & 'Lord of Light' it's a combination of fantasy & science-fiction elements, of the type that no-one else does nearly so well. It's no weighty meaningful tome, but it's great fun & a real example of the kind of stuff Zelazny could do at his best. If, like me, you've read his stuff & asked "How the hell does he think this stuff up?" then this book will add depth & richness to your perplexity.

There should be torchlit processions of baying villagers to the doors of publishing houses everywhere, demanding the reprint of this book. Mr. Zelazny has left nothing finer: unique & weird & anazing. If you find a copy, buy it.
