Chambers Adult Learners'Guide to Numeracy - By: Mrs. Christina Holland, 02 Nov 2008
I bought this book to help me with my Maths. It is well set out & explains in a clear & comfortable way. A realy good book I would highly recommend it for anyone who may have found others a bit hard to follow.
Fantastic - even for people who are good at maths - By: Dominic Batstone, 05 Aug 2008
I purchased this as a gift for a dyslexic friend. Obviously I had a quick read before wrapping & found it to be superb.

I'm pretty good at maths, but never remembered how to do some of the basic stuff that I was taught in primary school. I've always been able to trigonometry & algebra but haven't been able to do long division since about 1982!

This book teaches "how" & "why" you need to know these basic things.

Imagine walking into a shop & seeing signs stating "20% off everything" & not understanding what this actuallly means or getting change from a cashier & not being able to work out whether it is correct or not.

If you are rubbish at maths & are too embarrassed to go to an "adult maths refresher course" then this book is for you. If you are good at maths but just want to recap on things you didn't learn when you were 5 years old then this book is also for you.

Highly recommended. Easy to read. Easy to learn with real world examples.
An excellent aid for the National Tests in Numeracy - and more. - By: A. I. McCulloch, 03 Aug 2008
I bought this as I am an adult literacy & numeracy tutor & wanted a book I could recommend for extra home study to my students - this is definitely the one. Starting from scratch, the book gives clear, practical examples of numeracy problems & takes the student through them step by step. The book contains lots of interesting facts that makes numeracy come alive for the student- if you've ever wondered why zero Fahrenheit is so far below zero Celsius, this book gives a possible explanation.

Plenty of examples are given in the areas learners seem to find most challlenging- for example, how to calculate ratios & metric conversions. The book is broken down into easy to find, meaningful sections that broadly map to the Adult Numeracy curriculum, starting with whole numbers & ending with data. Illustrations are plentiful, clear & helpful. There are several useful appendices, containing tables & the old/new favourite, a learning styles questionnaire.

If you are wanting to study at home to pass the National Tests in Numeracy & prefer paper-based materials to studying on the Internet,- or perhaps there are no dedicated numeracy classes in your area - this book is very much written for you.
