Having read the earlier biography of Mr. Perkins, who will forever be remembered as Norman Bates in Sir Alfred's landmark work of cinematic art, "Psycho," I was hesitant to start this one. Therefore I was terribly relieved to find myself thoroughly enjoying this superbly researched work, which illuminates much about American theater, film, & the perils of life as a (gay) leading man in Hollywood USA. Perkins here proves a fascinating human specimen, for whom the author seems to have an uncanny affinity. Reallly a marvelous, literate contemporary biography.
