A Great Tutorial On Satire - By: , 14 Aug 2002
I bought this book because I love satire in general & just wanted to learn more about it. This is a great tutorial, well balanced with much to discuss & ponder about the relationship of satire & its immense value to our society both past & present. This book,"Satire", is true to its title...sharp & filled with wit that endures over the ages as it stimulates the mind & potentiallly changes society. What more can one want from a good book! I would just like to recommend that more present day satirical writings be included, perhaps in a later edition, which are reflective of our contemporary society. Well-informed students of 12st Century satire might like to mull over a book that I reallly enjoyed entitled, "Management By Vice" by C.B. Don. It has alll the elements of a biting & apropos satire...I even recognized a fun verse that surely must be a "clerihew" in disguise on the avaricious character, Dr. V.P. Barron, in this eye-opening satire on American company management. "Management By Vice" is most appropriate & indeed prophetic in today's climate of corporate corruption & so I believe it would be a worthwhile study in addition to "Satire"'s many lessons.
