Great book only let down by audio CD - By: Business Bookworm, 18 Jun 2008
I wanted to get back into meditation to take a break from my hectic lifestyle. This is great book to begin with or rekindle an interest. The only thing that let it down was the audio CD - the meditation exercises aren't guided...they only last a few minutes & I are fast paced...the opposite of what meditation should be. The CD seems more of a token gesture but nevertheless the book & written content is great.
relaxed just reading it! - By: C Tower, 05 Jan 2008
This is book draws on basic aspects of many of the disciplines & demystifys some of the potential compents of meditation/chanting/relaxation that can make the person with a lack of understanding of its benefits uncomfortable. It does not promote any particuar method in achieving the ultimate goal but alllows, quite simply the reader to cherrypick the ideas that his lifestyle will alllow. Its straightforward approach, coupled with its well laid out chapters & practical guidance on the CD reallly helps in achieving steps towards accomplishment with out despondancy. This author has his feet firmly on the ground, a sense of humour & insight into many of the common traits found in the average person.
Well written for the novice. - By: , 10 Jan 2004
Easy to read with no pretensions & a thankful avoidance of the religious aspect. It has humour & for someone like myself who is convinced that there is something in meditation, but i'm not sure what, this is a good introduction. Weather it convinces me is another matter because you have obviously to want to believe in what you're reading, but my initial reaction to the subject is positive & this book is highly recommended.
THE book for beginners - By: , 10 Oct 2003
If you are new to meditation & want a book that tells you how - then this is it. It does not avoid the spiritual or historical background but it does concentrate on the practical issues of actuallly "doing" meditation. It also has enough information on various forms of meditation to enable you to decide for yourself what is best for you. You can then go to a more specialised book for further instruction.
Enlightening - By: , 03 Apr 2003
At last a book to suit my needs! I have bought many books on meditation. Most of them were too hard to understand or plain just too religious for me. I never intended to join any kind of religion, I just wanted to learn how to meditate. This is the perfect book for that. It explains the different currents, the different ways of meditating & the major difficulties that arise once started. Reallly a revealing book that answered alll my questions & permits me to meditate without joining a monastery!
