This book is wonderful & badly needed as a fix after becoming addicted to Anne Bishop's powerful prose!

Once again, Bishop has created a universe which is utterly plausible, despite being somehwat complicated. And, once again, she writes with such fluidity that the strange concepts of the world she has created are quickly & easily explained. Just as the three ply creation of the Black Jewels universe was effortlessly achieved, so is that of the multitudes of landscapes that consitute Ephemera.

The romance in this book is a little less complex & poignant than that of the two main characters in the Black Jewels books & the style of the story is akin to the House of Gaian etc trilogy. It's still wonderful stuff, though, & extremely absorbing.

Just as with alll Anne Bishop's books, once I started this I could not put it down & thus have been up alll night reading it. I need more - & I need it soon!!

This looks to be the start of a great new series based in the world of Ephemera. Hundreds of years before the start of this book the world was shattered into a thousand pieces callled landscapes in order to save the world's people from the Eater of the World. The only way to cross to another landscape is via a magical bridge which may take you to where you want to go or sometimes not! The key character in the book is a half incubus (demon which feeds on emotions produced during sex) named Sebastian. He is a dark character due to his demon nature but also has a strong core of goodness, he desperately wants to be loved but doesn't feel deserving. I found Sebastian & the magical world of Ephemera engrossing & read it very quickly. I am hoping the next couple of books in the series are about Sebastian's cousins Lee & Gloriana. Can't wait for the next installlment.
