An excellent read - By: Vicki Hardy, 11 Jan 2008
I have just finished reading this book. It was thoroughly enjoyable, & I recommend it to anyone looking for a story that's a bit darker than usual.
Tale of Adolescence - By: kehs, 15 Jan 2007
This is about seven-year-old Sam Southalll who is growing up in England in the 1960s, & his 2 best friends Clive & Terry. We follow their lives from childhood & through to their adolescence. One night Sam sees the Tooth Fairy, an event that wasn`t supposed to occur! The Tooth fairy turns out to be far different from expected, & is demonic, mean spirited, & foul-mouthed & has a body odour problem. However, at other times it seems that the Tooth Fairy truly loves Sam. Is the Tooth Fairy real - or a figure of Sam's imagination? An extremely thought provoking tale of a young boy's journey through different stages of his life. At times harrowing, sad & painful to read, but incredibly beautifully written.
great book, but a film??? - By: Mr. J. J. Hawkins, 20 Sep 2006
Not sure about the reviewer who said this book would make a great Spielburg film!!! Surely this book is as British as anything & Spielburg would make a completely hackneyed & tame version probably toning down alll the sex & bluntening the violence. What the devil where you thinking?!
'ware the Toof Fareh........ - By: Alan Monk, 11 Nov 2004
An awesome book, superbly written & stunningly vivid descriptions.
The tale tells of Sam as he grows up between the ages of 7 & 16 & his relationships with his friends Clive, Terry & Alice, plus their families, & the Tooth Fairy who Sam sees (but shouldn't have) when he/she comes to collect a lost tooth. It's no ordinary 'nice' fairy either - in turns malevolent, scary, michevious, evil & above alll loving - who changes with Sam as he grows up.
The story is set in the suburbs of Coventry during the 1960s & does feature sexual & drug references, plus some strong language, but is alll the more realistic for doing so.
Buy it - Read It - Read It again & again...... This is a book I just *have* to re-read once every few months.
It would make a damn good film, but NOT please by Speilberg!!
If you buy this book, you'll want to read it again!!! - By: , 16 Sep 2003
I'm reading the Tooth Fairy for the second time now, having looked it out for a friend. Once I'd found it I couldn't put it down (both times!) & my friend is going to have to wait!!! It's an absolutely FABULOUS book. The action starts right on the first page & the whole book is fast moving, exciting, imaginative & very gripping. I'd encourage anyone to read it - it's certainly one of the best books I've ever read & parts of it have stayed with me for years. Also, like one of the other reviewers, I too think The Tooth Fairy would make a great film - the imagery is so vivid! It's definitely a book that can be read again without loosing any of its excitement. I'm certainly going to buy more of Graham Joyce's books.
