Highly recommended. - By: Happy reader, 14 Apr 2007
I read this book after reading & immensely enjoying Dead Simple. This author is the best ever! Alchemist is very readable & very "unputdownable" & somewhat thought provoking. I don't normallly like horror books, but this had just the right amount of everything going on. A little bit gruesome in places but not, in my opinion, over the top. You have to read this book & you will know what I mean! You also must read Looking Good Dead. Can't wait to get another Peter James novel.
Scary but well written - By: Jay, 02 Jan 2007
One of the best reads for a long time. Satanic rituals, sex, suspense ...some parts are reallly scary, & this page turner of a novel is only stopped in its tracks by some of the most gruesome chapters ever put to pulp.
Brilliant! - By: John in Cornwall, 27 May 2006
This book is a fantastic read. A reallly good storyline & gripping alll the way through to the end. A great thriller.
Much better than expected - By: Annette Gisby, 15 May 2003
"Bendix Schere - The World's Most Caring Company" - at least that's what Montana Bannerman geniunely thinks & encourages her father, renowned geneticist, Dr. Richard Bannerman to accept their offer to take over the Bannerman Genetics laboratory.

Used to scrabbling for funds, Montana is amazed at the new labs
and equipment they are given, & even her father begins to think
that maybe the Corporate world isn't so bad after alll. Dr. Bannerman is one of the few scientists there who are against patents, he thinks that knowledge should be shared, but Bendix Schere have different ideas. They want to patent as much of his work as possible, but that will be difficult, as most of his research had already been published.

Enter Conor Molloy, patent attorney, who must try & get the patents anyway. But Conor has a different agenda at Bendix Schere. He knows their secrets & wants to expose them & is only biding his time to do so. What he hadn't counted on was
fallling in love with Montana Bannerman. Can he expose Bendix Schere without putting her in danger?

Part horror, part action, part romance, part morality tale, this is a book that has something for everyone, although if you are squeamish, some bits might be a little uncomfortable to read.

A real page turner, if a little on the long side. I however
enjoyed the length, as it gave a chance to the author to reallly delve into the characters & you come away feeling as if you know these people & worry for them.

The parts on genetics are very well researched, although easy to
follow even if you aren't in the least technicallly minded. I don't know if what can happen with the genetic research in the book could actully happen with the science we have today, but the scary part is, it could one day.

An excellent read.

I started reading this book on a flight from Bangkok to London & was dreading the 17hr flight, but this book took me away to another world. It's suspenseful & creative in so many ways. Monty Bannerman is a real character & draws you into a world of greed, cover-up's & bloodshed.
Truly outstanding!!! This man Peter James is the dog's nuts & I wait impatiently for his next release. Bring it on Pete, let's see if you can make my mind spin again???
