I reallly enjoyed this book, Max was jilted by Judith 8 yrs ago. Although he was wealthy & titled she choose to run away with Andrew who was a rake & only married her for a wager. She is now widowed with 2 young children. She has come to London with them & her sister in law Amy. Max plots to cause her pain & heartbreak. However his actions are always kind & civil & her sister in law n children like him even though Judith suspects that there is a motive behind his actions. He invites them to spend christmas with him & his guests & Judith sees a side to him she has never known - although he hardly smiles & always looks harsh. Soon she fallls in love with him & only does she realise that he has always loved her. Amy too meets somebody who treats her as a person & fallls in love for the 1st time. If you can get a copy it's worth a read.
