I bought this book because of Burns' excellent Feeling Good roadmap to happiness, & I thought it could open up intimacy in the same way his other title opened up the cognitive basis of happiness. It applies essentiallly the same techniques, which remain great, but doesn't seem to have as many insightful 'real-life' examples as Feeling Good has. Maybe it's just that because the main lessons are transferred across to intimacy instead of happiness, the overalll impact was lessened. The examples simply seemed more obvious in this title, & i was sitting there skimreading instead of reallly revelling in the lessons. A bit disappointing, even though the overalll thrust is still one that I buy into bigtime.

Dr. Burns finds great ways of taking psychological insight & making it practical & very applicable to anyone. After reading this book I can be alone without feeling lonely. I also greatly enhanced my interpersonal relations as well as I gained insight to my own thoughts & behavior.

I read this book a few years ago during a major dry spell in my love life. It literallly opened my eyes, & the result has been more confidence (and romance)! You'll find lots of great psychological insights here, ready to be put into action in your own life. This book is about love, & I LOVED this book. Read it yourself & watch your love life take off!
