I've had a copy of The True Brit edition of this book for some time, & must say that it's a little gold mine. There aren't tons of different recipe ideas here, & no noncy photos, but alll the basics are covered, & if you can tell one end of a wooden spoon from the other, you can take the basic plan & adapt it to your likes.

My personal favoutite recipe has to be China Syndrome Chilli, but alll of the recipes, along with the humourous stories wrapped around them, warrant a browse. The instructions are clear & precise, so even the most bloke-ish cook shouldn't be able to louse things up too badly, but even if you do set fire to the kitchen, there's an out - foil-wrapped baked potatoes cooked in the ashes!

Do yourself a favour, & get this even if only for a laugh. As you read, you'll want to try out these no-nonsense, red-blooded ideas - although personallly I draw the line at the Wessel Wellington (if you want to know, buy the book!)
