The story of the Sandbergs & their friends, who fled from turn of the century Russian persecution, cannot fail to strike a chord & several nerves in any Jewish reader with immigrant antecedents. The first goal of survival cedes to a quest for success & prosperity. Then acceptance versus assimilation. The characters are lovable & well-drawn.A wonderful read.
