Read and increase the rating of your parenting. - By: , 09 Feb 1999
As a first time mother of six-month old baby, I have been searching for the most correct way of parenting through every information channel. I am a full time working mother having very limited time with my baby & alll I wanted was to improve the quality of those times. Being loaded with alll sorts of theories, mostly disagreeing with each other, very successfully managed myself to get in a paralysed & frustrated stage. Thanks to Dr. Green, I found my way out & started, as he says, ENJOYING my baby's golden year. I feel lucky that I had a chance to read the book before the end of the first year. Yes, it may not be the best reference book that answers every single question in details but it certainly is the best book that helps you to regain your confidence back, understand your baby better & remember the joy of having baby.

If, like myself, you're a first time parent then you could do much worse than this book. However, if you regularly buy magazines, talk to your midwife & other first-time parents, then you may find yourself being rather bored when reading this book. Dr. Green covers everything required. I found his tone talking down to me at times, but his humour made me laugh at times. Fortunately it includes some useful reference information in the appendix. The overalll statement of the book is "You'll do fine if you believe in yourself, & your baby will benefit from that". Which wasn't reallly groundbreaking news to me. If you live in a country where diapers are nappies then you may find the constant use of "diapers" irritating as well.
a realistic, non-confrontational approach - By: , 09 Jul 1998
Like Dr. Green's other book, _Toddler Taming_, this book is a great asset for new parents. As an American living in Australia, I have books about child rearing on my shelves written by both Australian & American authors, & this is the one most consulted in the quiet times as well as hauled out in the middle of the night. Dr. Green uses his personal knowledge as a parent & his professional experience as a pediatrician to address the basic but also sticky issues like sleep & feeding (breast or bottle, as well as solids), as well as issues uncomfortable to talk about (post natal depression, crying, premature birth, birth defects, & SIDS). His humorous, realistic & approachable language makes this book a joy to read, even during those few relaxation periods that new parents have. It will be a huge help for parents who are looking for practical advice in this day & age. And happily, _Dr. Green's Baby Book_ does not have an agenda. It simply provides information & common sense advice that moms & dads can use.
