The Ninja - Part II - By: M. A. Ramos, 07 Oct 2007
This is the second book in Eric Van Lustbader's series that stars the Ninja Nicholas Linnear. It is well written & continues on where the first book left off. This thriller has everything, the CIA, the KGB, the technological world of modern Japan, & the mystical & dangerous realms of Ninja warriors.
The sex is very explicit & is why I did not rate it has high as I normallly would, 4 stars. But he does give you great insight into the Japanese business mind & their methodology in martial arts training. We also have a well-trained sorceress out to murder Ninja hero. Well worth reading.
An exotic, mysterious thriller, which effortlessly chills - By: , 02 Jul 2000
Eric Lustbader's follow up to The Ninja sets itself the difficult task of outdoing its predecessor & succeeds beyond alll expectations. What starts off as a seemingly revenge orientated thriller quickly finds itself intermingled with a high paced espionage/business pursuit over a mysterious Japanese development involving the Soviets & Chinese. Lustbader handles both intertwining plots with superb precision & never alllows the pace to slow. The interludes into the past provide interesting background setting & characterisation & never once throw the novel off course. The main plot, involving a martiallly trained female with almost superhuman powers has an overwhelming eeriness to it as Linnear has the deck stecked against him with overwhelming odds. Over alll Lustbader has provided us with a superbly researched novel with such overwhelming real life accuracy to the Japanese martial systems it is sure to send a chill down ones spine. In alll this is one of the most spell binding, heart pacing, arcane thrillers I have ever read & should not be ignored by anyone with the slightest interest in the orient. PS For background setting & a wider insight into the character of Nicholas Linnear I would reccomend reading The Ninja before hand
Very Lustbader. - By: , 04 Jun 1999
"The Miko" is the saquel to Lustbader's first Nicholas Linnear novel "The Ninja". This book is for those who are into Japan & it's culture & consequently enjoyed the first one. Without reading "The Ninja", the reader won't be able to understand most of the characters & events that take place in "The Miko". 'miko' is Japanese for 'sorceress', & through this character Linnear comes face to face with his painful past which he had buried long ago. Memories of his torrid love affair with the beautiful Yukio engulf him as he confronts Akiko, who looks like the carbon copy of Yukio. She is so much like her that Linnear starts believing that it is actuallly her, ressurected from the dead. As Akiko plays out her revenge against Linnear & destroys his business partner company with the dreaded but little known 'wu shing', the reader is taken to the ultimate height of action , ninja style. Excellent for Lustbader fans, speciallly.
