False Teachings - By: S. Lynch, 22 Aug 2008
This has absolutely nothing to do with the Christianity of the Bible. If you're into postive thinking & New Age ideas - it may well be for you. Christians be careful!
Excellent reading for everyone - By: Benedictus, 26 Jul 2008
This books should be in every household, even in Catholic ones as mine.

Joel Osteen would not pass an exam in Catholic doctrine (many Catholic would not pass it, either), but his simple & beautifully worded message of faith, optimism, trust in God & (as I would say) in the work of the Providence is refreshing, inspiring, empowering & through & through Christian, whichever one's denomination.

The main difference with the new age philosophy is, though, that Joel Osteen acutely & intelligently avoids telling you that faith & joy will yield immediate result, as new age authors sometimes tend to say.

It is true that true faith can move mountains, but you might have to wait for God's own time, perhaps for years. You might have to have your faith tested, & your determination steeled. You might have to use your adversity to grow for as long as He, not you, decides. All will be a greater blessing in the end, so again this is not a reason to be depressed or to abandon the fight.

It seems to me that Joel Osteen strikes the right balance with a message that is always optimistic & empowering, which encourages & invites people to take their lives in their own hands instead of taking "God's will" as an excuse for everything wrong in their lives; but which remains Christian at his very core, always leading you to God & inspiring you to lead a God-Centered life.

The only slight critic I feel I must move is at the mediocre quality of the paper, perhaps - & even considering the reasonable price - the publisher could have done better.

Still, an excellent book.

Thank God . . . Literally! - By: MikeT, 27 Apr 2008
I have probably read half the books out there right now on how to manifest the life of your dreams. With one notable exception, this is the first currently-published book I have read that truly identifies & names the real source of an abundant life - God! But you still have an important part to play in the process, & Joel Osteen masterfully tells you exactly what part that is - from affirming your worth, to choosing your thoughts, to recognizing the power of giving. This book is bound to inspire & uplift you, no matter what you "think" your current circumstances are. If there is any fault with this book, it is only that it is a bit repetitive. But Joel writes so well, it's almost a pleasure to read the same thing over & over again. If you want some of the same points delivered in a more succinct style, with a clever metaphor to make the principles more memorable, I also recommend "Row, Row, Row Your Boat: A Guide For Living Life In The Divine Flow" by Steven Lane Taylor. (That's the "notable exception" I mentioned earlier.)
Got Your Attention? - By: Martin A Hogan, 24 Dec 2007
Jimmy Swaggard. Ted Haggard. Tammy & Jim Baker. All these people used God's name in their sermons. Not Mr. Osteen. Where will you put your money? If you have the horrible need, go to the library & read this book. There are ways to make your life better without making someone who does not recognize God, a richer person.
